Changing keys to sing

This question seems illogical to me and I need the help of the community to figure out the why of it all.

When I used my capo and move a C chord in the traditional open fingering up to make it an E chord, keeping the fingering the same, my voice sounds better for this particular song.

In my mind moving it up would make it sound “higher,” and impossible for me to sing.

Strangely, it fits my voice better than a C chord.

Logically it seems moving from a C to a C# to a D to a D# to an E would be way to high for me to sing.

Thank you

You are raising the pitch of you guitar but you can lower the pitch of your voice to the same key but different octave. Think of how on a piano there are only 12 notes but 7 octaves

Thanks for such a clear explanation. It makes sense if, for example, I had some little hammerons, or little flourishes I knew in C, F and G, I could simply move up to E, playing the C chord forms and do it in the key of E.

Appreciate your wisdom.
