My family opened gifts this morning, and I received two music-related presents: a tambourine and a kalimba. Very cool; I love getting new instruments.
Will post some pictures later.

Hey Mr Tambourine Man play a song for me.
I’m not sleepy and there is no place I’m going to….
I like Kalimbas, they’re fun - how many keys does it have? Mine is a 17 key one made from solid Acacia, had it a couple of years now but don’t play it much but the Grandchildren love it!
It’s a 17 key kalimba (came tuned to C) made from mahogany. Honestly not sure how I’ll use it, but having fun with it so far.
Well sorry folks but I had to google it ! No not the tambourine !!!
They look pretty cool and if you get fed up with it, guess you could use it as a bird box !
The way the tines are arranged is interesting. They’re in thirds going right and left. So if you start on the lowest tine (C, in this case) and go right you get C - E - G, then A - C - E, and so on. Going left you get D - F - A, et cetera. So you have your triads (in the key of C) all grouped together. To play a C major scale you’d alternate between left and right (I’m playing with my left and right thumbs).
You and me both Toby!
