I’m a big Beatles fan too. That was a great version of the song Paul. You’ve clearly put a lot of time into the practise and production. Clever stuff. Well done.
Great work Paul, ![]()

For me, really nicely done on all aspects, cool vocal, guitar and bass. Love the new toy, I think they’d be a lot of fun and well done getting that down.
Nicely done video too
.
Ok, couple of questions, what do you use to pull your three part video together.
And secondly, I can’t see any in ear monitors etc so what were you listening to whilst playing each part?
Well done Paul.
Thanks Gordon - I’m learning a lot putting these multi part recordings together, it’s great fun but good practice too!
Cheers Craig! For the video edit I used Final Cut Pro on the Mac - I’m hardly scratching the surface of what it can do, but it’s good fun exploring the options. I’m using something called the ‘Magnetic Mask’ to cut out the two guitar playing ‘mes’ and overlay them onto the singing me.
Typically I do use IEMs, but this time I had the house to myself so I was able to play the parts I’d already recorded in the room.
Nice work. I’ve been looking at something like this in Resolve and also know you can do it in Reaper which is actually not hard but it all takes time.
If you were playing back through desk monitors how did you stop the playback bleeding on to the vocal track or was the pickup so low it wasn’t noticed.
It was pretty low volume, but also for this one I was using the Shure SM58 for vocals, which is unidirectional and quite low gain. I often use my condenser mic for vocals (like in my Waiting for the Man cover) but I would definitely have got bleeding on that mic for this one.
Paul strikes again ![]()
I’ve always been impressed with the ‘Little Red Hen’ I’ll do it all myself approach ![]()
You sure did bag production on this classic Lennon number, although I would have liked to see more hair (at least knee-length
)
Covering songs faithfully is a superb learning experience. One problem lies in the fact that the closer you get to the original, the more noticeable even tiny differences become, which can make it seem ‘flawed’. That’s one reason I find totally reworked covers can be so satisfactory. Good songs tend to be transferrable to many different styles.
Vibes for bringing us together ![]()
Thanks Brian - it is fun to dissect the originals and see how they are put together. I think there might be more than ‘tiny’ differences between the Beatles’ masterpiece and my attempt, but I learn something every time I try ![]()
Well done Paul! Three instruments, nice vocals, good solo, and a video with three Paul’s and no “visible seams” ![]()

(mind sharing some tips on how to merge the video clips into one?)
Thanks Ashu. I used Final Cut Pro on the Mac. I filmed 3 takes (ahem … well it took more than three, but you get the idea) - guitar, bass and singing. Then I used the Magnetic Mask feature in Final Cut to ‘cut out’ the images of me in the guitar and bass takes. It uses a clever algorithm to analyse the footage and make the background transparent - similar to green screen (which I tried, but my bass is a green colour!!). Then I simply overlaid the two guitar takes on top of the singing take.
Here’s a test shot I did with green screen and my bass …
Paul I found this very impressive! Sounds and looks great! And I like your percussions 'solutions…With much respect for drummers…but if you don’t have one…I guess it has been fun for you! And seems also a lot of work.
Thanks Silvia - you are right, lot of work but lot of fun (and a great learning experience too)
Hi Paul,
Great job.
Tones are excellent.
Vocal is well in the groove.
Drums - good effort - maybe a little rigid, but they’re more difficult than us non players perhaps give credit for. I think of drummers like Phil Rudd - sounds simple, but he just creates great groove and is spot on with his timing.
Digger
Cheers Digger! Yeah, drums are my new definition of ‘Harder than it looks’ ![]()
Oh, listened to it, but forgot to comment before…
I really enjoyed your performance! Beatles fan here too, since my childhood.
I hope I can put something like this together one day too… probably quite a bit less good video wise.
Also enjoyed your green test!
Reminded me when I worked quite near to the place in 2010 and when I wanted to see it, there were always tourists crossing in Beatles’ manner with someone taking a photo of them and cars had a hard time to pass… ![]()
Thanks Dominique, I appreciate it.
I did the zebra crossing myself many years ago. There’s a live webcam of the Abbey Road crossing which is often fun to watch as people will constantly stop traffic while posing for photos.
Look @roger_holland… It’s BACK! ![]()
Time to repost that murky

It continues to amaze me , but also throughout my life I get negative feelings when I see something like that in any place and with anything, how most people all want to do the same thing…I’m more of a wolf (small pack and…) …I would move heaven and earth not to walk across that zebra path when by accident enter that place …
O well …![]()
I haven’t written it yet Paul, but you have done a great musical performance at every point

Greetings
Well I’m not going to defend it … partly as I did the same thing about 40 years ago ![]()
However (ok, perhaps I’m now defending it…) herding is a human instinct which has kept us alive for a while. We go to football matches to support our team, or go to concerts to see our favourite artists with like minded people. I would also argue that there are far more people NOT going to cross that road than those who do … so who are the real rebels ![]()
I do feel sorry for anyone who has to drive down there regularly though!
Cheers Roger - it was a lot of fun to put it together!
![]()
the same as…“I don’t want to be rude…but” and then you know something terrible is coming… ![]()
I think that 99.9% of all tourists who pass by there have to walk over it (otherwise they would have been there before and are now trying to act stoic
)… but of course it doesn’t matter, I know that’s how it works,
(and I sometimes enjoy being annoyed by such things and glad @brianlarsen that he calls me …he is my stokholm syndrome often
)
I immediately admit that I’m deviant in these kinds of things… and that bothers me more than it benefits me, luckily on holiday with my wife for almost 28 years, she has the same thing and that saves a lot of complicated visits and queues for all kinds of things, that’s a big plus …
the 5 years before I met my girl I had one that dragged me everywhere through Europe and some other countries and all its “highlights” … or it must be nature in all his beauty with us two or very few people at it most… that’s makes me happy
It’s a good thing that very large groups do the same, otherwise I would see too many around me when I am in the forest ![]()
Greetings ![]()
loved it Paui well done mate cheers Hec
