It’s very common to play the b7 - 9 - 11 over the bass note, leaving out the 3rd. You end up with a triad a tone below the bass note, often written as G/A (G triad over an A Bass note), which we could also write as G11.
Could you please tell me exactly what notes are in this G/A chord. In a G7 chord the 7th is an F, the 9th is an A and the 11th is a C. I dont get how A could be the base note as it is the 9th and in the middle of this triad. Are you putting the G in between the F and the A of this triad? Looking at the video it looks like that Justin was fingering an A over a GBD triad which would be the 9th over a basic 1-3-5 triad. But that is not leaving out the 3rd.
edit: ok, I just caught what this was in the video, Justin quickly mentions this is an A11 chord. So I’ll leave this question up anyways as someone else might be confused.
Hello @arquebus and welcome to the community.
The G triad contains notes G, B and D.
Meaning G is the b7, B is the 9 and D is the 11.
The bass note is A so that is the 1, the root.
It is an A11 chord but within its structure is a full G major triad so can be referred to as G/A also.
I hope that helps.
Cheers
