Community open day/Workshop could it work?

Hi, I am just wondering how the community would feel about Open days/workshops if they were organised by ourselves and helped by Justin’s officials, This is just something floating around in my head at the moment because I have lots of time on my hands now. My name is HEC and I am from the North East of England.

I do have a lot of support and local means and help to be able to organise such an event and a lot of good ideas to help this community grow even bigger, I am not even sure if it has been done before or if it is even allowed, and if it happened it would be in my local area but if successful they could indeed spread across our community as good fun days out

This is just an idea for a fun day of music and meeting other members and maybe getting people up on stage etc. So I am just testing the waters trying to see if there would be any interest in such an event cheers HEC

It’s a great idea Hec, I like it. I would definitely be up to it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Hec

Do you mean in person workshop/open day meetings? Wouldn’t that be a bit didficult as we are spread across multiple countries and continents? Or did I misunderstand?

Wouldn’t mind a trip back to NE England though, which is where I was born.

Best, Ian

Indeed, if you mean irl workshops, we’d be talking countries and continents. Talk about going global…
Anyway, i’d be in for something like that. Not that i can travel to north england just like that. There’s visa’s and stuff nowadays…

Nice thought, Hec, but I can’t see it working as an ‘official’ JG event
Justin already hosts official workshops, which I have only heard great reviews of (despite the price tag).
However, there is nothing stopping you from organising a guitar get-together of like-minded forumites (maybe something along the style of @tony’s campfire weekends) for anyone interested. Suggest a date and see who bites?
I’ve done a number of 1-on-1 ‘jams’ with anyone who fancies dropping by, as long as the time suits. In fact, I’d better head off now… I’m supposed to be at @Richtrfc’s in 25 mins :grimacing:

Hi Ian, yeah that’s what I was trying to explain. I just couldn’t put the words over correctly so if one was successful, they could spread to the wider community and other countries/continents etc but run by different members, What part of the North East are you from Ian cheers Hec

In-person meet ups and get togethers for guitar, music, chat and more … what’s not to like?

These would need to be informal and strictly unofficial, meaning the JustinGuitar name and brand couldn’t be used. But they could comprise of folk who are JG students and organised here in the Community.

Hi Brian you can tell I am getting better haha, so yeah I understand we couldn’t replace Justin’s official Workshops. It was more like still being part of Justin’s community even promoting it to younger players showing our local communities that guitar is reachable etc. through the community and indeed what Justin has built from his thoughts all those years ago.

And yeah I do understand what you are saying, Brian about Tony’s campfires and other things we find ourselves doing within the community I forget sometimes. anyway just an idea for now

Hi Hec, this is a great idea. However for me for example the logistics are not easy. York to Newcastle by train, possibly a stay over and then back. And York is not far, any other com members in the UK may travel much further.
I would enjoy the same around York, though as yet have found no com members near enough.
Really good thought though. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Hi Mal, I would travel to York it’s a gorgeous place, and the idea is there I am just pondering over it, I was fortunate to meet another community member at an event in my home town North Shields he only lives 10 minutes away from me and we had a great time at a blues festival earlier this year, it reminds me I should contact him again so if you are reading this Ryan, and it would be great if we actually knew other members and how close they could be to each other anyway thanks for replying Mal :+1:

I like the idea a lot. :+1:

It would be such a pleasure to meet you all (or at least some of you) in person, but it would highly depend on how far I would have to travel from my tiny corner of the world here in Germany :globe_showing_europe_africa: :face_with_monocle:

Hi Hec

I was born in Redcar, then lived in Acklam, Middlesbrough. All of my family (Dad’s and Mum’s side) were from Middlesbrough. We moved down south when I was 7 because my Dad saw what was coming at British Steel (Dorman Long). But my uncle and cousins still live in Great Broughton near Stokesley.

I lost my Teeside accent. But ironically my sister who became a lawyer in a posh London firm never lost her Teeside accent. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Not quite as far north as you, Hec.

Sorry completely diverged off topic of the thread !!!

Cheers, Ian

We’re near neighbours Ian.
I was born in Darlington, grew up in Eston, lived a short time in Great Ayton.
I had spells in Leeds, Wakefield and London too.
I’ve been back in Teesside many a year again, now north of the river in Stockton.

I like the idea. It sounds similar to what the Chevrolet Avalanche Club/forum I belong to does (well used to do since there aren’t as many Avalanches these days). They would hold local or regional GTG (get togethers). Judging by the replies this far, it looks like I am the first from the US to chime in. I’d be up for a local meet up to jam a bit.
