My 2 songs from last weekend’s JG open mic night - thought i would copy my pre-recordings here to keep a track on them but also always glad to hear any suggestions for improvement - as well as the challenges offered by playing and singing (!!) i always struggle with my sound set up - i never really know whether i have it as good as i can get it or whether i am doing something obviously wrong (i have a dynamic mic for vocals and a condenser mic for the acoustic both feeding into a Scarlet 2i2 and then USB into a PC for the zoom meeting).
LOLA
Nice job. I dont who It was that said how they learned about the nature of the song during the open mic (i was sitting in a different chair faceing the other way) but it was pretty funny.
Great job Jon. Loved the classic and your version. Thanks for playing it.
I particularly enjoyed ‘Lola’, this is a lifetime favourite of mine. I was 12 when it was released(Oct 1970), it brings back a very vivid memory of mine in 1971, when my Mum I were sitting in a Café in Winchester(UK) waiting for a bus. I put two records on the Jukebox, first up was The Beatles - Revolution, and 2nd was ‘LOLA’. I sat there and sang all the lyrics to "LOLA’, much to my Mothers look of horror on her face and the amusement of the other customers in the café. Days of innocence hey and not being particularly self-aware. I remember being rather pleased with the effect it had on her, as I had an idea of what the song was about even then. I was just beginning to explore the enigma of girls at the time.
