Crazy Love; (cover) Marianne Faithful, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (The Lego Lads)

My brother Hans, suggested covering this a while back.
I remember singing along to The Ballad of Lucy Jordan by Marianne Faithful as a teenager:
“At the age of 37, she realised she’d never drive through Paris in a sports car, with the warm wind in her hair” :musical_notes:
That seemed a lifetime away back then, but I’m pushing towards double that now! :open_mouth:
Once again, I used Moises to split the stems and sent an MP3 template, along with a chord/lyric sheet to the usual suspects. The Copenhagen contingent took a rain check, so it’s just four Larsens and a Goldring.
The original is in Eb minor, but I transposed it to G minor as it didn’t suit my voice.
Chris tested my patience by recording his violin part along to the original in the wrong key and leaving me to sort it out in Reaper. If he does that again, I will be the reaper!
At the last minute I decided to add a bit of guitar to fill out the sound, and was a bit shocked to realise that I had a number of chords wrong in the chorus. That’s probably a good sign, as it means everyone is playing by ear- If it sounds good etc. There are a couple of bum notes, but not worth the effort of rerecording.
It was fun trawling the memory banks for ‘crazy dancing’ scenes. The idea was sown by watching dEUS in Paris last month. The lead singer Tom Barman directed a film Anywhere The Wind Blows with crazy Sam Louwyck dancing. From there on in, it was just join the dots and try get the speed vaguely synchronised.
Forever grateful to this site for the gift of music and enriching family and friend relationships :folded_hands:
Enjoy! :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Lyrics & Credits

Hated by all and everywhere he goes, blazing contempt for human life and lies.
Murder as art and what he knows, he knows from life and fear in other people’s eyes.

Crazy love is all around me.
Love is crazy, love is kind.
But I know somehow you’ll find me.
Love is crazy, love is blind.

She walks the boulevard without a care, knowing too much but having come so far.
Pretending life is just a game you play for nothing, loving no one and nowhere.

Crazy love is all around me.
Love goes crazy, given time.
But I know somehow you’ll find me.
Love is crazy, love is blind.

She looks as if expecting a surprise, maybe an encounter that will change her life.
Not knowing hot from cold or good for bad, if life is just a joke or if it makes her sad.

Crazy love is all around me.
Love is crazy, love is kind.
But I know somehow you’ll find me.
Love is crazy, love is blind.

Crazy love is all around me.
Love goes crazy, given time.
But I know somehow you’ll love me.
Love is crazy, love is blind.

That was pretty cool to watch and listen to. Fun, awkward, over the top, but also entertaining! The song was nice and well done too.

Thank you so much for dropping by and the positive comments :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Au contraire, mon ami!
Throwing these kinds of shapes takes a lot of planning/choreography, precisely because folk are watching. It’s what I aspire to on the rare occasions that I hit the dancefloor
(I did once incorporate ‘gyrations’ in one of my AVOYPs, but that caused a Vannilli-esque miming scandal )

:open_mouth:
… and there was me thinking sophisticated and cool! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Haunting. The tones and colours in your voice suit this well Brian.

Aw… thanks, Maggie :folded_hands:
That makes going to the trouble of key-changing worthwhile.
I hope your ‘easing your way back into guitar’ is going well :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Another legendary job Mr Larsen, between you and Phil, you sure know how to make someone feel completely inept

Ballad of Lucy Jordan was angood song by the way :+1:

Another master piece from The Lego Lads!

You never fail to surprise and you brilliantly put all the pieces together. I couldn’t sum it up better than Pam @pkboo3 did. There can’t be a production by Brian and/or the Lego Lads without a bit of weirdness. Well served in this one and the video was a perfect fit, too.

I thoroughly enjoyed that.

The last thing Chris will likely hear then:

Cheers Craig

Phil… I understand.
Me… I simply draw on the talents of people who are more capable than me.
(from a production point of view, there are many similarities with getting an AI program to provide the parts :grimacing:)

You say all the right things, Lisa! :face_blowing_a_kiss:
BÖC: although I like them, I was probably more fascinated with their logo than music :open_mouth:

@Molly thank you.
Much appreciated :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

I really enjoyed the music Brian and hats off to you for the vocal and production. The other Lego lads must wish they’d taken part now. But I have to be honest and say I didn’t enjoy the lsd trip video but I realise if the band isn’t available it’s a bit like the old Top of the Pops when Pans People had to fill in :joy:.
Marianne Faithful gets a bit of a tough press but this is a great song.
I have to say I prefer the Dr Hook version of Lucy Jordan.

A masterpiece Brian, really enjoyed the music and your video which fits so well. How do you find time to do anything else, apart from Wednesday morning?!!
Richard

Hi Brian, everything I could have said, already has been said, so I keep it short: :+1::+1::+1:.
The only thing to add: next time, I’d like to see YOU dancing :slightly_smiling_face:!

Hi Brian and band,

Hope you’re well.

Great job. Superb melancholy.
Really enjoyed the piano work, but all was top notch.

Video fit well.

Digger

It’s been a while alright :joy:. Beginning to thaw out here now so maybe I will rustle something up soon :joy:

Hey Brian ,
All actors that I really enjoyed and it was great to see them dancing and moving like that… :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: I think it is very fitting and it gives me as a listener a little more value and a merging of the music so that some irregularities are not so noticeable…Your way of singing gave a soothing feeling and as a whole I really enjoyed it this morning…

I wonder how Hermine just experienced it next to me…she is having a bad flu trip …don`t know if this helps …I will ask her this afternoon what she find when (if) the fever has subsided a bit. …halfway through she walked away to the couch to lie down

Ps: that piano is going to be extra nice if i listen to it for a second time and pay extra attention to it :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Nice start of my music morning ,Thanks :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:   :man_bowing:
