Creep - Radiohead

Hey all, haven’t posted a progress video in a while as I was traveling without a guitar for a couple months. My calluses are all gone :frowning:

Anyway, here’s my take of Creep. I considet this my gym for practicing Barre chords.

Hope I did alright, and hope to hear what advise y’all have for Barre chords other than keep sucking till you suck no more

Hi Aroon - that was a great performance. Nice vocal too. Couple of thoughts …

You are getting a fair bit of noise moving those barre chords around - you might want to loosen your grip a bit more to see if you can reduce that - you are unlikely to get rid of it altogether as a couple of the moves are large and quick.

When I play this, I like to change to power chords and palm muted 1/8 note downstrokes for the loud bits of the song / chorus - it breaks things up and provides some variation.

All that said, I really enjoyed your performance … more please

Good job on those. Was hard to hear you play and sing. Were you using your phone to record? If so, turn yourself, facing the phone, so we can see you better and how you’re moving your hands and fingers. It’ll pick the sound up better too. All in all though, great job!

Nice dude.

I liked the Black and white. Totally 90s style, it give that gritty look. Sounds good nice singing and good guitar play. Thanks for giving us a good song bro.

Very enjoyable Aroon! Very good at singing and playing. I agree with @jvlynch. If you will, next time, face the mic for increased volume. Everything else sounded fine to me.

Thanks, friends! I didn’t realize how low the volume was - it was recorded on a cellphone and I wasn’t really planning on doing a full song as I’d never tired doing that many repetitions of barre chords before.

I will heed mathsjunky’s advice to switch to power chords occasionally for the variety, and admittedly, to give my hand some rest between barre reps.

You don’t need to use power chords, there are other ways you can change it up. I guess I’m just saying you might want to think about doing something different for the chorus, as on the original it moves from soft picking to full on distorted and it gives it movement.

Here’s how I play it (sorry, can’t remember the lyrics for the verse!). What I play is different from the original, but it changes between verse and chorus. So you don’t have to copy me (in fact, you don’t have to change anything - what you recorded sounds great) but I think it might enhance it if you think about changing the dynamics between verse and chorus.
Just food for thought

Nice! Thanks for recording the demo. I see what you mean. Individual string picking while singing will be very difficult for me at my level, but I do want to do that eventually, at least to start off before the verses begin. Will try the 8th note muted strums as well and see if the added variety helps. Again, very kind of you to record a demo for me!
