I’m trying to learn how to sing and play. I have never learned how to actually sing so any good training materials on that would be helpful. So much to learn to get to a great sound! Anyway I’m enjoying the journey and this song has such a happy vibe to it. iPhone recording surely isn’t the best
That was fantastic Adam and in my opinion your singing voice doesn’t need any work as your vocals were excellent . Keep em coming!
Hey Adam,
You’re in luck. Justin has one of the most definitive guides around on singing and playing.
Plus, there are plenty here who have trodden the path, so lots of info in the community.
Cheers, Shane
Thanks a lot Shane! This video is what got me this far really. I need actual singing instruction on how to use my voice and control it. I’ve been using ear training to try and get in tune, but i know there is a wealth of knowledge i need to find and absorb
What a fun little song! Thank you for sharing. Nice guitar playing and nice singing as well. I would agree with Eddie that your singing is good already, just keep practising and it will get better. It’s like playing guitar. You don’t wake up one morning and play guitar, it’s just the same with singing.
A nice quirky song Adam, very enjoyable.
That sounded pretty incredible to me; both playing & singing. Your vocals sound great.
If you still wish to take music lessons, you can check out Music lessons by Chris Liepe. ChrisLiepe.com. A few of us have taken his Discover Your Voice course. It’s a bit of a commitment. I think it was maybe a 12- week course. I only made it through 6 weeks, but I think other Justinguitar members have taken it and successfully completed it. I need to go back and complete mine. I can’t remember the cost but it was pretty reasonable though.
Thank you so much! This is exactly the kind of thing i was looking for. I’ll check this out this wknd!
Hi Adam. What a great little song. I didn’t know it and looked up the original. Very cool.
I also love to play and sing together - it’s hard. I think your playing is really good and you have a good sounding voice - by that I mean that your timbre is nice and you produce notes without to much effort.
Compared to the original, I did notice that you were “off” in some sections. Maybe you did that on purpose, but if not, here are a few notes.
In the verses you were mostly spot on, it sounded great. Well done.
In the chorus and the bridge you are singing melody lines below the original. You kind of make it work, which is why I’m unsure if you did it on purpose or not. But it gets a bluesy, folksy feel to it, because you sing some dominant seventh notes that are not in the original.
It’s very common for newer singers to be “scared” of the higher notes and thus not really go for them. They require a bit more effort, but I’m very sure that they are well within your range with a bit of practice.
I don’t have any specific singing materials to recommend, but I would suggest that you search youtube for exercises on matching pitch, especially in the higher part of your voice.
You sound like you actually have pretty good control of your voice in the lower parts of this song, so you are off to a great start. Keep at it and I’m sure you will improve quickly.
