Dakota Cover by The Mondays

I have been playing rhythm guitar in a covers band for a couple of years now, and recently we decided to record a few songs at a local recording studio to help promote the band.

I still regard myself as a novice player, especially compared to the others who have played in bands previously, but this is my favourite song to play, and you can really hear me driving the rhythm on this. I am also playing the lead line at the end of the bridge / end of the song.

We have recently started a Youtube channel for the band where you can find the rest of our studio recordings.

Great job Malcolm, sounds great - we’ve covered this too - really fun song to play. Nice to crack out the phaser pedal

It seems like a popular song, we play it as well. I really like your version, especially your tone and how nicely you balanced instruments. Great recording! Did you record this in a professional studio or you did it yourself in a rehearsal room?

The band sounds terrific Malcolm! About your parts, are you in my right ear or left ear? Or both?

Thanks @Richard_close2u for the comment. We have made a video featuring 3 of the songs that we recorded at the studio. Some of the clips in this video we mimed playing over the recordings( top of the pops style), the others are clips from some of our gigs From last year and the actual session at the studio.

Thanks @twistor59 Not sure which channel I’m coming through, I assumed it was left and right. I just played and the engineer sorted the technical stuff.

Thanks @Boris1565 for the comment. We recorded this in a professional studio along with some other songs. We set up as a band in a room and recorded 2 or 3 takes of each song. The engineer then edited and mixed the tracks.

Thanks @mathsjunky for the comment. Yeah, it’s a great one to play for sure. I am actually using the flanger effect on this.

Nice. I played around but eventually decided on phaser - it’s a synth on the original apparently.

Ah right, I could hear a couple of rhythm parts - didn’t realize you were playing both!

Awesome!

Very nicely done. Congrats to you all!

Love the flanger effect. Made me think of looking at/buying one. Seems like a good addition to my board.
