Hey everyone! It’s been a long while since I’ve been on here, hope you all have been well :slight_smile:

I am back and really trying to tap into the site like I never have before, ie: logging things, practicing and most importantly connecting with others who are trying to learn, be better musicians and just build connections with other musicians.

So far I am taking the Music Theory Course and I passed the first test!!! Music Theory is always something I have avoided and struggled with because I don’t understand it. I’ve always looked at theory like math, and I am not the best with numbers. My strength is with words, hence the novel here haha. But either way, I want to build a practice routine and stay accountable, connect with others and maybe make some friends along the way!

Along with the log, taking the music theory course I am also chipping away at the beginner guitar course. My long term goal is to write music and play in a band! Anyway, I look forward to learning and connecting with you all!!

Hi Dave and welcome back! There’s one thing you need to do with Music Theory and that is keeping your guitar at hand and start from the beginning to look for the things you read on the fretboard…this is a sure way :100: See you around the Community!

Welcome back, Dave and great start to your log!

I also struggled a lot initially with wanting to learn theory. I’m terrible at math and theory reminded me a lot of learning it :laughing: But then I started songwriting and realized that theory made things a lot easier for me. Keep at it! You’ve got some great goals and I promise the theory will pay off when you start to play with a band :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi everyone! Just giving a little update. So far I have finished Grade 1 of Music Theory and and working on finishing Grade 2 before I subscribe again. I took the Grade 2 test a few weeks ago but wasn’t quite there. That’s okay, we go back, reassess and try again! I have been working on naming notes within the first 5 frets and boy, I am surprised with how much I am retaining! Practice really does help haha.
