December Recordings-Weird Cross Training Experiment - Last Christmas

I am a team lead where I work. A few years back I started some specialized training to help them learn and advance. While it started off well, interest has fallen off, an quite frankly, progress is VERY slow. Two weeks ago in the training, I blurted out, “I’ll tell you what, If you continue learing and put yourself out there, I’ll do the same and show you my guitar journey.” So, I’ve created cheesy videos of myself showing what I’m working on. Usually shy about sharing this stuff with them. Two weeks in now, one video of explanation and one of results a week. Teaching them join SQLs and I’m working on strumming and riffs. Please excuse the cheesy join references…

Actually pretty cool. Kasey, some funky rhythms. Not sure what you were saying, so missed all the SQL references.

Agree with David’s comments, didn’t take in what you said but it was an enjoyable listen…thanks.

Yep, really cool. Could only hear a join command, but looking at the description of your yt vid makes a lot more sense:

SELECT * FROM KASEYPBC.RIFF1 A, KASEYPBC.RIFF2 B WHERE A.RIFF=‘CHIPS PATROL’ AND B.RIFF=‘JAMMIN’‘?’

Got it! :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Thanks, David! I spared you all the explanation video. No need to spout my SQL nonsesnse to all you folks.

merry Christmas to you both, Kasey.

Wow, that was just delightful. I remember the previous video and encouraging you record without the app. Bravo, you’ve done a great job here.

Loved the guitar tone, and tip my hat that you can also add the drums. Fine work n the production to add that and the other percussion.

Your wife is amazing. Seems a natural performed, dancing and singing. Great vocal full of feeling.

Don’t know how you record and mix, plus always like to preface any comments about mix, balance etc. with the acknowledgment that it is simply my taste and opinion, not a definitive right or wrong call.

If I’d mixed this I would have dropped the guitar level. My general aim is for the vocal to sit upfront and be supported by all the other instruments. The overall loudness of the video in YT is spot on (StatsForNerds, shows you your level relative to the YT norm, and I think you nailed that). With the guitar dropped you could raise the master level a wee bit. For me that would balance drums, guitar and vocal well.

As I say, just my subjective opinion, not an objective statement.

I loved the video composition though for me the video was quite low resolution. Not sure if that is something you can address or not. Guess it depends on the camera in use. But would love to see you both in higher res.

Once again, that was a dreal Christmas Eve treat

Brilliant guys ! Love it, great job putting it all together.

Well done. Merry Christmas. :santa_claus:

David,

So glad you enjoyed it! I also really appreciate your comments, they are very helpful. Especially in this one, your opinion on mixing and production. I am very new to it, so any advice is well taken. We’re building up some gear and hope to get a good camera, instead of that crappy old iPhone video. I am using a ZEDi mixer and Cugbase for the audio and Davinci Resolve for the video piece. Keep the advice coming my friend and enjoy!

Thanks Gordon! Merry, merry

It is my pleasure, Kasey. That is truly the spirit of the Community, passing on the learning from generation to generation.

I’m not familiar with any of the gear, but Cubase is pro-grade and I am sure you can adjust the balance of your tracks before rendering I final audio for the video production in Resolve. A good idea to listen to the audio mix in headphones, rather than speakers. At least I’ve always found that to be most effective.

I am assuming that you are working on a laptop or PC, so provided it is convenient from a setup perspective, a mid-range webcam should serve you well. My webcam is more low-end and still does a decent enough job.

Look forward to your next!

Aw! So entertaining! Great playing and your wife has got it!!!

Glad you liked it! She really does. So fun playing with her. Thank you!

One last for December. Like that my topic got changed to December recordings for my reference in the future. Just an audio of an original.
