Hi all. In one of his recent newsletter Justin posted a link to this video (which is nothing to do with music theory) . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVzvBKLxCr4&t=2s . Justin features quite a bit in it. Has anyone else watched it?
Itās a humorous romp through what makes us love our guitars and playing, starting with the premise that people sitting in front of a bunch of guitars on videocalls started during covid, and then goes into why people have different stuff and what makes us the same/different in our love of guitar. It has all sorts of interesting people in it - from a former director of the FBI, professors, medics and music teachers (including Justin). Anyway, not only did I find it really funny I really connected with how we all love something different about guitar but whatever it is it connects us. Well worth an hour of anyoneās time.
I had not watched it before but I did when you posted this. It is very good, funny, and there is some background history lessons and also just a lot of like, āHey I get thatā moments.
Fair enough. Iām not sure the covid conspiracy joke was that well placed and the back wall stuff is just something to hang the ālove letter to guitarā it on but it gets into its stride later on .
Now that I know that it gets more interesting later in the documentary, I may give it another go. Iām glad to hear it got more āguitar-relevantā as it progressed.
I stopped watching after 10minutes. I didnāt get the humour and it didnāt seem like it was going anywhere.
ā¦and I am a āguitar in the cornerā personā¦.or a bass in the corner personā¦and piano behind. Thereās even some drum skins, but they are my sonās and I donāt show them often.
Yeah thatās what I thought. I wouldnāt say it was the best doco Iāve ever seen. There were a few topics in the show on the social history of guitar and the interviews with experts which were interesting and couldāve been further developed. As a few others have said I didnāt really dig the humour. Overall I enjoyed it.
Yeah Iāve got to admit it doesnāt start strongly - I wasnāt sure it was for me until 10-15 mins in when they got to interviewing people. I donāt think the title is the best either - it brings up images of Music Theory which it certainly isnāt
