Hi @triplefantasy, are you using the premade practice routine provided for each module? They contain a 10 min song practice where you play along to (parts of) 3 songs chosen by Justin. That’s the easiest option and y ou don’t need the app for that.
Another option would be to choose a song of the appropriate level between the many song tutorials Justin provides on his website. This takes a bit more figuring out by yourself as you get less immediate guidance. Personally, at this early stage in your journey, I would rather go for the easy option.
Hi @triplefantasy, are you using Justin’s website or do you go directly to youtube? If you’re not doing it yet, I would strongly advise you to use the website (www.justinguitar.com). There’s some extra information beneath each video, there’s a link to the relevant topic on this forum and there is a practice assistant to help you with your practice sessions. You can make your own routines, but at the end of each module Justin provides a premade routine which you upload in the practice assistant. And best of all: it’s all for free!
You will have to create a new account as the website and this forum are not linked. Once you’re in, click on the tab ‘courses’ at the top, then ‘Beginner Grade 1’. There you will find all the modules and their lessons. For grade 1, module 4, that’s https://www.justinguitar.com/modules/metronome-stretches-the-pattern. You’ll see that the last lesson is titled ‘practice routine’. Click on that, and you will see a tab ‘practice’ just beneath the video. Click on the ‘save routine’ button at the bottom. Now go back to the homepage and click on ‘practice’ on the left. This will show you your active practice routine.
The best advice I can give is to view and use the Nitsuj practice sessions.
There is a set for each module and grade you have done so far. You can then practice with another beginner ( Justin trying to play left handed) as he goes through the full 30 minute practice including a 10 minute song practice. During this song practice he will often have his app showing on the video for the song he has chosen to practice. you can then jam along with Nitsuj and the app.
I found all of the Nitsuj sessions so helpful. Not only to practice along with but also to gauge my progress. It really is a most useful resource.
You could come to one of Fanny’s Onboarding club meeting’s in the clubs section of the JG site. The ones for the new year won’t be posted until after the holidays but her ‘on boarding club’ is really good for all the basics of the website. A number of regulars chill and help answer questions and she goes through all the really good website functions. The practice function is simply amazing, and you just can’t beat it. That’s a huge part of begginer levels 1 - 3, and as @LadyOfTheCastle said, at the end of each module you can select move to practice rutine button and it will port over the recommended practice items to the current practice routine. Justin really makes it easy for us, you wont be sorry. I still use the practice assistant to this day, a well regulated practice is extremely helpful for me I spend time setting up my practice routines and really work them. If I dont I will just wander aimlessly looking at stuff and not really accomplishing anything.
Edit. Fixed typos and added some things to be more clear.
Another possibility is to reach out to Justin, He is a very helpful and fair man he may just step in and help you a little bit , that’s what Justin does cheers Hec
Did you watch the lesson called “Songs for Module 4” in Module 4? Here Justin suggests 6 songs to learn, which you can do using Justin’s tutorials. Links to them are provided on the “Songs For Module 4” page. Seems pretty simple.
