Dry fingers

Hey all.
I live in Colorado. The humidity here is super low and I also do things like gardening and woodworking that dry my hands out so bad I have a hard time holding onto my pick.
So I bought some finger wax that is used by people that handle a lot of paper and bank tellers for money.
Stuff works like a champ. Not sticky and doesnt leave residue on my pick. Totally solved my problem.
Just thought Id pass this on for anyone else with the problem.
( There are probably a ton of people already doing this, but…)

Thanks! I might try it. My hands are so dry I never use chalk while rock climbing. Even when I’m sweating like a pig in SE Asia.

Hi Dean< nice to meet you and I have never heard of it so it just goes to show little tips you might think everyone knows turns out very helpful cheers Hec

Thanks for this tip. My hands are super dry and it’s difficult for me to keep hold of the pick. Upside is that the fretboard doesn’t get as dirty with nice dry hands.

Nice, I’ll try that. We got the humidity now 80%, but come winter relative humidity goes down to 30% – so I feel your pain!

Here in the Northeast of the USofA, my hands and feet used to split, quite painfully, in the winter. I’ve read that the skin dries out, the skin biome changes, and nasty little buggers set up shop while the good 'uns have depressed populations. Sounds “truthy”—don’t know it is the truth.

For the last 40 years I’ve successfully prevented cracking by using Bag Balm on my hands and feet before going to bed when the cracking becomes a problem. Bag Balm was formulated to prevent cows’ udders (“bags”) from becoming chapped in winter. — I put it on before bed, and then put on cotton socks and gloves to keep it from rubbing off on the sheets. Come morning it’s absorbed by the skin and doesn’t feel “greasy”.

It’s a concoction made with a byproduct of wool (lanolin), vaseline (petrolatum), and a mild antiseptic (8-hydroxy-quinoline sulfate). It’s made in Vermont, where I worked on a dairy farm (and learned about it), so I like that it is locally made too. I also used it when I worked on the ocean, and turned many fellow sea going folk onto it as well as our hands were constantly nicked/scratched/cracked with exposure to sun, salt and tough use.
