Wow Jeff that was seriously impressive stuff, for someone who’s not long started again in the general scheme of things.

When I saw the title of this when first posted I knew I’d have to come back to it. I do love a bit of Heavy Metal but I get very selective when it comes to Thrash, even where Metallica is concerned but hey I am getting on a bit. This was good ! Especially someone towards the end of Grade 2 but your back story reveals a bit of “previous” and that holds you in good stead. Even at 85 % MoP sounded superfast it was only the vocal that confirmed I was hearing something slowed down and boy you have endurance to last the full 10 minutes. Hats off for that alone. Vague recollection of Zombie Ritual from somewhere, that or it sounded similar to something else but I think you’re making good progress on both. And congrats on playing ES all the way through as well, yeah a few fumbles here and there but beyond me to criticise even constructively.

All 3 were refreshingly different to what’s normally posted, so keep doing what you are doing. Funny how they reigned it back in with the Black album after MoP but this old boy was happy with the “slower” vibe.

After that I might just slap on And Justice For All and grab a brew. So thx for that !

Thanks so much Toby! Really means a lot to me that you took time to check these out :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

I know what you mean, for sure! Some I love, some just doesn’t do it for me at all. Metallica is a great example of that, absolutely killer first four albums, then a change of direction with the Black album but still some great tunes, then everything after that is not my thing at all.

Yeah my right forearm is burning by the end! :joy:

Yeah I’m sure you’ll know it when you hear the song properly. It came out on Death’s debut in 1987 (often considered the first true death metal album to be released, hence the name according to some). Chuck Schuldiner is the driving force of the band and, in my opinion, one for the greatest metal guitarists of all time. Not so much on this album but his later works, the guitar playing is just ridiculous yet still super catchy. Sadly he died in 2001 from cancer at only 34.

Love that album! Great call! :beers::metal::persevere:

Thanks again, Toby, keep on charging mate! :metal:

I totally agree with you. Our main focus in this early stage has to be our music knowledge and technique. Tone development is crucial, true, but I think is better not to worry too much. Because I always had the fear of falling into the gear-buying trap .

However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t play with the things we already have. Now that we are talking about this. Maybe I should add a practice item into my practice routine for tone development .

Thanks Paul! Really appreciate you checking the vids out! :+1:

Wow… what a first AVoYP, Jeff… and you treat us to three in one go… way beyond my play grade to give you any real advice… you are developing some really good skills… just keep doing what your doing as it’s working wonders… As for RLS its worth recording every time you practice, that way you start to normalize it and it then becomes just part of your standard routine… that’s something I’m working on. Well played sir :sunglasses: :guitar:

Thanks so much for your very kind feedback, James! And for taking the time to check this out, much appreciated!

Aaah the dreaded RLS continues to plague me! :joy: Great suggestion! I have a simple setup using OBS which essentially is a single button-press start, so I will make that a standard practice and should normalize it soon enough :crossed_fingers: Thanks again! :sunglasses::+1:

Hi Jeff,

Enjoyed those.
Thought you got some great tones.
My advice - get out of the chair and let it rip - “Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme…”

Wasn’t familiar with Zombie Ritual - nice stamina on keeping those strums going at even tempo.
Next stop the vocal.

Thanks Digger! Great advice! Yeah definitely need to get up out of my chair, don’t do that enough. Next vid I’ll do that for sure! Not sure about the vocals though! :see_no_evil::joy:
Thanks again! :metal:

OH MY GOODNESS!!!

You basically nailed Master Of Puppets and other then the bar chord part for Enter Sandman you’ve nailed that as well. I always found the bar chord part for Enter Sandman a struggle.

Thanks Kayd!!! :+1: Both are super fun to play, I’m still working on MOP most weeks to try to keep my fast down-picking palm mutes in shape. Looking back at these recordings, it encourages me to do some updated versions as there are plenty of things I’d would like to improve on, but cool to have this a as record for progress.
Thanks again for checking this out! :metal:
