Erika's learning log

Erika

Your cover of ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ is excellent: good strumming, good singing. Try practising ‘Wish You Were Here’ as slowly as needed to get the pick / strum changes as clean, and as in time as possible; then build up the tempo. Look forward to hearing more.

Thanks for the advice!! I will try slowing it down. I think sometimes I get ahead of myself.

Hi - my name is Rob and I do feel like we are in a similar place on the learning path ( maybe a few weeks behind you) and am also working on module 8. I also had a hesitation to move past grade one but one of the deciding factors was the boredom of playing all the songs on the Justin Guitar all from modules 1-7, yet not feeling confident… I very much enjoyed watching your posted play videos and admired your courage in doing so. I have discovered when you try to sing, and get the changes and timing plus the strumming plus looking into a camera … it’s a little much at first :exploding_head:. It certainly highlights what it takes for other performers to put together something special. Keep at it - love the progress :call_me_hand::guitar:

Thanks Rob! I was nervous to share at first, but my private teacher keeps reminding me to play more confidently, so I thought maybe putting myself out there would help with the confidence. I may appear confident, but I don’t really feel that way, haha. I guess that’s why they say “fake it 'til you make it.”

As for singing and playing, I really struggled with doing both for a long time. But I practiced the “old faithful” strumming pattern enough that I can do it without thinking too much about it, which allows me to think more about singing and the chord changes. I still have trouble singing along if I try any more complicated strumming.
