Wow, that’s great progress, Erion!

You definitely made your homework and came a long way it the past 6 months. You already had a good foundation as given in your Before-video, but improved much until the final composition, great phrasing and touch!

Thanks for sharing your journey with us!

Super stuff Erion and I really love the tones you’re getting.
Well done.

Great stuff Erion, loved them all and the improvement in tone, comfort (hope that makes sense!) and confidence, comes thru clearly in the progression!

Loved all the tones you are getting… perhaps you can share something about what’s in your chain and how you dial things in?

Thanks all.

Ashu, the guitars I’m playing in these videos are a Fender Player series HSS Strat, and a Hagstrom Viking (HH). I use a Zoom G5N multi FX unit, which is a modeller that allows you to build signal chains with up to 9 components. My typical signal chain looks something like this: compressor + drive + amp + graphic equaliser + cab + reverb. The amps I tend to use the most are Fender Twin and Marshall 1959.
The multi FX unit has a digital output that I plug in to my Windows 11 laptop, where I record typically using Audacity.

Initially (videos 1-3) I used to video record myself on my phone whilst Audacity was playing the backing track and recording the guitar. Then I would put together the backing track and the guitar audio, and then edit the video to put the audio on top.

I have simplified all this by recording on Zoom (the video conferencing software) the last few months. I’ve bought a digital mixer (Behringer Flow 8) which sends the mixed output (backing track + guitar) to the laptop on one single stereo channel, and I set that as the Zoom mic. Then I start and record a meeting on Zoom, start the backing track, and play. I download the video recording from Zoom and trim the start and end of the video. The only downside is I can’t do any post production with this, but I make sure the balance is right beforehand.

I typically use headphones (Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro) plugged into the multi FX unit when I’m playing, or into the digital mixer when I’m recording. When I don’t use headphones, I use a FRFR floor speaker (Headrush), connected to the multi FX unit.

I’m thinking of upgrading my multi FX unit with a Line 6 Helix LT at some point.

Your commitment to learning during the BLIM course was evident from the start then throughout Erion.
Your collection of recordings is a great record of progress.
Now, post-BLIM, you are still learning and improving plus the additional dimension of bringing live performances to the JG Open Mics is a real bonus.
Keep it up.

Thanks for this explanation of your setup Erion. I was about to ask you about that. The tone you get from both guitars is great. Like the others said, you have made amazing progress although I was already impressed by the “before” as well as the after.

Thanks Richard.
I’m very grateful to you and Dave for the support during BLIM.
One of my goals for this year is to complete RSL grade 5, and continue the following ones.
I’ve always enjoyed making music, but JG has really ignited my passion for guitar.
I’m also looking forward to Rock Immersion (or whatever Justin will call the Rock course).
