Find the River - REM

Hi all. I’m still (and will be forever) trying to play and sing at the same time. Here’s my attempt at one of my favourite REM songs. The guitar part is relatively easy, so it’s a good choice for practicing singing.

Automatic for the People. Such an amazing release. 1992 was a totally amazing year.

Great job with that song, it was unmistakable. I think you did a great job. Your strumming hamd was tight with great rythem. Clean chord changes.

I know you said you were concerned about the vocals, but you sang it good and It sounded nice to me. I felt a clean jerk of nostalgia and really left me hoping that you would cover the whole release. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: great pick of a nice deep cut. It was the closer on a great album as you obviously know.

Thats for posting that one.

Hello Colin, that was great. I think you’ve caught the emotion of the song really nicely. Played and sung well.

I see the tee you’re wearing, so to finish: commiserations. I feel your pain.

Thanks for listening @Willsie! Aye - it’s not easy being a Scotland fan!

Very nice rendition. I liked the balance between guitar and voice - very good! I always mess it up and my guitar, while I’m strumming, never sounds as even as yours (I always get some buzzin’). And vocal is very enjoyable, such a soft feeling. Great job.

P.S. While my name is Rem, I’ve never actually listened to REM band.

Nice job on one of my favourites. Damn, you beat me to it, was going to post this as well!
Very smooth strumming, and the arpeggiated sections sound perfect.
I also agree that the balance between vocals and guitar are very good.
So which team will you support now? Please don’t say anyone playing England!

@C_McG Thank you for posting this. I don’t think that’s an easy song to sing so well done and very nice guitar playing with just the right mix of vocals guitar.

@remchi Hi Rem, if you haven’t listened to REM then Automatic for the People, the album on which this song features, is an absolute classic of the 90’s with many very good songs on it (including Everybody Hurts which offers an easy introduction to 6:8 fingerstyle and isn’t difficult to sing either).

Thanks for listening @millmoo! I’ll now be supporting Portugal (my wife is Portuguese so I don’t have a choice!).

I would listen to the following 3

1988 Green
1991 Out of Time
1992 Automatic For the People

I was not into it so much but if you really want a glimpse of their full on earlier collage Indie style, take a look at Murmur from 1983, a lot of people really like it.
REM was for sure a placw marker for a time and place in my life.
