When doing a finger stretching exercise, moving slowly up the frets, do we place the fingertips on the string or more of the pad? And is the aim to have no contact with the string below the one being played?

Fingertips and on the thicker strings your fingers will be flattened out rather than tightly curled and arched, and therefore in contact with the strings below.
Thanks. One more question: is it ok for the wrist to gently roll up and down dependent on the string?
