Fingers hitting strings

Hi looking for some advice and help. I’m a beginner guitar player with fat fingers and have been having trouble with my fingers hitting other strings while trying to play. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi Ryan
Off the top of my head I say, practice more, practice very quietly and neatly…I have thin fingers and in the beginning I constantly plucked different strings…I still do now when I start something new…
I have read that someone has an acoustic guitar (classical) with a wide neck and therefore more space between the strings… but I have seen players with huge hand ( Howlin’ Wolf …BB king etc etc) who just play electric… so it is just very neat and precise practice,

no quick solution unfortunately,

I hope you have fun playing the guitar

Greetings,Rogier

It’s just a beginner thing, nothing to do with fingers. It will all come together with time.

Make sure you place your fingers perpendicular to the fretboard when playing. The gap between the E and D strings is so large that I can’t imagine how thick your fingers would have to be to not fit between them when you press down on the A string exactly.

Take a look at Christone Ingram playing blues check his fingers out cheers HEC

I double emphasize this concept of placing your fingers on the frets more vertically–think tips of your fingers. It is something I wish I had paid more attention to when I started—I’m now retraining myself for it to be the norm. And, as others have said, more time practicing

If you’re talking about your picking hand rather than your fretting hand, that too needs the ticture of time. I found that I was getting buzzing as I tried to pick a single string and the pick got too close to an adjacent string. I remember Justin, in his video on playing Mad World talking about developing eyes on your fingers so they can see the strings, or something like that.

Keep at it. It will happen with time, it’s worth it.
