Fingerstyle Blues - No Pinky Path

Hello there,

I just wanted to share my little progress with “relearning” not to use pinky anchor and I am doing it on tunes I already know. I am starting to get use to it.

I dont touch, I can play comfortable. Only thing is sometimes it does not look good - like when dog is peeing on someones car.

Also something strange happened to me… I know some tunes and one day I was just sitting playing and my brain connected them together automatically, because they both have on last bar B chord and… now I am using it, because it feels to me like bridge between them.

Is it OK to happen thing like that?

Of course I targeted it in video, but first find was so pure and natural I was really surprised. Is it possible to stick blues bars like that?

Edit: In one part where is E chord I started to mute all string after playing. I think it is stackato? I find it really great sounding in some parts. I really like all this new details I can add.

Such a lovely, bluesy vibe, loved it Michal…not sure why your’e trying to do away with the little finger anchor?

Sounds really good, Michal, bravo.

One observation: you slow down noticeably on the turnaround (both times), so you should work on getting it up to the tempo of the rest of the piece.

Well done, though!

@Willsie This is more about inner fight… when I was learning other things where is not constant palm mute like in blues… the anchor pinky really helped, so I know where I am. When I focused more into blues where you need to palm mute all the time I had at the same time two anchor points and in some areas it started to make little stretch and not relax. In this case it makes sense to me having only one anchor and that is palm. By the end of this relearning I will be able to use pinky anchor, palm anchor and “middle arm on bewel” anchor and like this I wanna reach independence, that my fingers can do what they want and need in that time. Thank you very much.
And I think that pinky anchor really helped me in the beginning of my fingerstyle path, but there is so much space to grow up in using it and not using it. Also there must be something about my hand anatomy. Now I know from my experience it is not bad to prefer just one of this option. It just depends on you.
And little extra… I am pretty sure as fingerstyle player I will need in future more freedom for picking hand, because there could be some strumming and percussiveness, but also when getting back to “home” being able to use pinky can be really worth it.

@jjw Great catch John, I will work on that. As days go by… I am playing it time to time just because I like it and I am getting better in making constant tempo and transitions.

@pkboo3 Thank you and to everyone else stopping by and listening to me.

Very nice Michal! I can’t offer much feedback on pinky as I’m trying to figure out myself as it tends to tense up and not being helpful to ring finger  Ahh…pinkies! It took ages for me to tame the left hand one and now we need to do the job with the other one

@Silvia80 Slowly but for sure we will get there.
Thanks for listening.
More I watch someone playing… it is not about pinky or not… but if you are free or not. And you can achieve that with both of them.
