Wow, this was difficult. Love this forum though.
That sounded really good thanks for sharing
Recording yourself is always a tough one!
Nice job James - sounded great. Recording yourself is such a valuable tool. Now you’ve got the first one out of the way, let’s see more from you! It does get easier
Greetings to you there in Finlands neighbour country to the west
Sounded great Good that you decided to post your first video, things will become easier after that.
Can’t help thinking though… Do you have so low ceilings over there or are you simply that tall?
lmao! lol … no no. I like to practice in a little outbuilding on our property. I am in the process of fixing it up. I never lay standing up so it has always been perfect. Lots of mojo in there. lololol.
Well done, James, you have discovered a valuable tool by recording yourself : … instant feedback …
Standing up AND recording+sharing; that’s 2 things at once
You might want to move to a place where you don’t (subconciously) duck for the roof above you
Smoot jazzy groove you have going there;
Thanks for sharing!
That sounded very nice and smooth, James!
Wouldn’t have guessed it’s your first time playing standing up and also good for you to finally step up a virtual stage and record and share the video! First time is always the hardest, so you can tick that off now. From here on, it will get easier, lol.
Thanks for sharing and keep some more coming.
That’s great James congratulations - and playing unaccompanied too!
Congratulations on your first recording, James . That was a very nicely played tune. I had an enjoyable listen .
And standing up is definitely another milestone.
You can be very proud of your achievements .
There’s a simple thing about playing in front of people, the more you do it the easier it gets, once you’ve broken the ice it’s easier. You did well for the first go, you also now have something to compare with what you do in the future!
Some nice jazzy maj 7 and min 7 chords in there. Sounds great with the Strat. Peter
But you sure made it look easy James. Great 1st video.
You looked very comfortable playing and your playing was good. + your guitar and amp sound great!
fwiw, Your ahead of me too. I don’t know that I can play standing up. I near always play sitting down. And there is a differernce as I have tried to play standing. I do better sitting…
I’ll take your video as inspiring for me.
Thanks for sharing. Very Good Job!
Thank you Darrell!!
I have always heard this idea, and have told myself, of course … makes sense. I’m know it will get easier. But I can honestly say I have now - experienced it. A wonderful difference.
It’s one thing to know something and another to live it.
I wish I could share the story behind my fear but it is fairly personal and I am sure common. This was a GIANT step, and one that was not so horrible after all. It only reinforces the notion that our demons are really more like ghosts. Not so bad and not so powerful. That said I will share that I did have to push very hard past this barrier. Somewhat internally but the person that didn’t want to do this REALLY got in the way in external ways. Seemingly endless physical struggles with software or hardware, life. One thing after another. Lots and lots of opportunities to blow it off. Doing it became a giant pain, and throwing in the towel became more and more easy.
I actually enjoy these now. And it really inspires me to go ahead and play live in front of others. The community here is awesome.
I am so glad you did. Thank you for the kind thoughts. I love your profile picture. Looks very peaceful there. The countryside here is the same. Beautiful. Left alone. It is really great. I will share a fairly personal realization I had recently. I was asking myself, ‘Why are you practicing and playing and doing this anyway? It’s not like you are going make money with it.’
People always responded because its fun … But honestly was it?
It occurred to me my motivation was a bit shocking. VERY honest and a bit childish if I can be blunt. I realized, I was practicing hours a day because I wanted to get a response from people. I wanted to make that transition when I picked up a guitar of shock. I wanted people to say, Oh my god! That is incredible. I had no idea. You are amazing at this.
While that is a bit embarrassing to admit, it has been terribly powerful. My motivations were pretty unhealthy actually. Long story short, I was learning to shred for example because that was impressive, valuable. If it wasn’t really hard, it didn’t have value … I wasn’t valuable. People wouldn’t care.
It has been amazing to let go of that. There is another content creator that I am not sure if I am suppose to mention here. His approach combined with everyone at this site has radically helped me. Basically, his message is sharing one note, honestly, delivered, on purpose, with intention that serves the music and your band, is infinitely better than technical gymnastics. Very refreshing.
I dont know where all that came from … But like I said, Thank you!! Keep enjoying life and have fun.
Thanks for the video, James. Like that groove you had going there. Sounded real nice.
Chris
Thank you. So I am similar but more of a guitarist trying to learn to add vocals.
I am curious, is there software that will let me load a song, or vocal track, and then graphically display how close my voice is to the original track in terms of pitch?
My take for you Pickin1 is that you picked a really great chord prog to do this. You’d like to be on a good stage playing at you pot. So play moody slow, and just look into her eyes. It’s a confience game; I have failed at it too. So, not try, but do it again. You got it. Also, if you are great, it doesn’t mean she likes you, that a different thing altogether! _R
That was pretty cool James. The first one is the hardest and you have now jumped that hurdle.
Melted chocolate for the ears. Would suit accompaniment and I’m sure it would be a lot of fun.
