I have been playing the acoustic guitar for 4 years and the electric for one year (when I started the BLIM course). I’ve only just recently started to record a few songs that I like playing - all of which need work. No blues songs yet, but hopefully in the future. I sing along with my playing as it helps me keep track on where I am in the songs but I know it’s far from good - anyway, here are the songs that are half presentable - any and all comments, criticisms and tips welcome.
Very good first postings! Sound good and you are well on your way. Thanks for posting.
Welcome to the community Jon, and congratulations on your first upload.
You’re going well mate. Some things to work on as you said; but hey, you’re not alone there. .
Wish You Were Here, a favourite of mine, is a deceptively tricky tune. The key is to keep that strumming hand in a steady 16th note rhythm all the way through.
All the best,
Cheers, Shane
Sweet Jon. Really cool to see you posting in here. Great selection of songs. I can’t wait to see more.
Hi Jon -
Great job on those songs - sounding great. I assume you’re a Pink Floyd / Gilmour fan judging by that great look strat.
Well done Jon, congratulations on your first upload. That was great, nice song selection. There are things to improve, like for all of us, but you are on the right path!
Hi Jon, nice to see you post such a mix of songs with different vibes. You’re well on the way with your guitar journey.
Excellent Jon. I think that was good, especially knowing how difficult it is to play and sing at the same time. I liked sound of silence the most.
Love the Takamine!!
I am - but just a humble Squier
Thank you everyone for your very kind comments.
I know there is work to do on all my songs (probably over the 100 mark atm), but my big problem is that as soon as I get a song to a half reasonable standard, I move onto the next one (there are just so many songs that I love from 6 decades of listening to music!).
Not sure how to address this but thinking that more interaction might be a starting point and maybe a focus on trying to really improve a small selection.
And the more I think about it, the more obvious the answer is - and better not to waste people’s time on this community listening to a song that I could do a bit better if I just made more of an effort.
One question for anyone still reading - does the general sound of my recordings seem ok? As I said above I only started playing the electric guitar a year ago and the whole area of amps and recordings is completely new to me. I have my mic and acoustic guitars plugged straight into a Joyo Momix (with the electric going there via a Katana 50) and then into my iPhone for recording.
Still a Strat, one of my favourite guitars is a Squire
Excellent, especially for a first posting. I really liked the finger picking on Sounds of Silence. Keep up the great work, Jon.
Excellent first postings Jon. 100 times better than my first postings. Keep them coming!
Great posting! Very nice version of „Wish you were here“ - you got into the song better at the end - i think you were speeding up a little at the end (also happens to me if I feel the song - it is somehow natural - just having an eye / ear on it helps).
Beautiful fingerpicking and singing with Sound of silence !
„Little talks“ was also great - loved your really consistent strumming and even the breaks felt in time (which is always the hardest at least for me). Nice acoustic sound and even percussive elements - and very well sing along - you really feel „home“ with this song. A lot of variations - great - I enjoyed listening
Ah, thank you so much for your very kind comments.
Well done Jon, it takes guts to dive in here especially with three of the trot so great job and keep it up mate cheers HEC
Wow, great performance, Jon! Especially for the first postings, congratulations, man! I like your choice of songs. “Wish you were here” is pretty popular around here, but not so many recordings of “Of Monsters and Men” and I always loved them. And I know what you mean about reaching half reasonable standard and moving onto the next one. I do exactly the same, always going for quantity
