Today I’m presenting to our community something quite different in terms of the style and mood from what I usually post, a moderately fast, rhythmic tune in an inter-genre swing style.
Played on a Gibson Les Paul Studio through a BOSS GX-1 serving as an amp/cab modeller, multieffect, drum machine and audio interface.

@Silvia80 @jvlynch Silvia, Jim - your kind words are greatly appreciated, thanks so much for listening, I’m glad you liked it. The fact is, in this case I betrayed my regular approach to what I create, I even used a drum machine which I do rarely. Just wanted a steady rhythm I wasn’t sure I’d be able to accentuate with the rhythm guitar alone.

Sylvia is absolutely right, its different, but still your style. Really like the layered guitars in your compositions.

Tomasz, nothing wrong with that. It’s still your creation. I get the using canned instruments avoidance though. In this case however, ok.

@dfrazz David - thanks so much! If you think I have ‘my style’ - it’s possibly the best reward I could get for my work; it will help me believe that what I do in music makes sense.
Richard - thanks a lot. I record most of what I play, even if I only practice. I now have over 300 such music miniatures stored on my HD; some are just exercises, and certainly not all are suitable for presentation out of sheer respect for this great community. And I carefully observe the (very reasonable) monthly limit. Anyway, your kind comment is truly appreciated.
@twistor59 Thank you so much, Phil. Actually, no, I have never played what could safely be called ‘jazz guitar’, especially with regard of the mainstream jazz. Some of my recordings border on smooth jazz, especially chord progressions. I’ve tried to learn some bebop scales and riffs but no success so far. If some of my phrases sound jazzy, it’s because I spent a lot of time learning how to apply passing notes to regular pentatonics, mostly by ear; as Justin put it: if it sounds good, it’s good, if it sounds crap, it’s crap

You’re being just too kind, Lisa, I thank you very much for listening and your comment, especially about the guitar tone that I always carefully set. You see, sometimes I feel as if I was swimming upstream as nowadays overdrive/distortion is the largely preferred electric guitar sound. I often ask myself what I’m doing playing a Les Paul through a clean channel …

I feel like this piece changes our relationship.
No longer a fellow guitar player admiring the work of a more skilled guitarist, now I feel more like a neophyte kneeling before the Master, hoping to pick up a few crumbs of technique haphazardly scattered about.

Tod, for God’s sake! You’re making me feel horribly, horribly embarrassed! I must openly and definitely disagree . We ARE, and always will be, fellow guitar players! I’ve been lucky enough to find a bunch of folks here who like my style and my sound, but that doesn’t automatically make me anyone better then others here, absolutely not better than those who play and sing their first learned song playing the simplest chords. It’s the passion that counts, and such guys may enjoy what they’re doing even more than I do. Besides, please remember that, unlike probably most of our friends here, I have lots of free time and can easily afford to spend 3-4 hours a day practicing. OK, I have to admit, not being falsely modest, that I have made considerable progress throughout the last few years, not only with respect to my music ideas, but also in my recording technique (mixing tracks etc.), but that’s happened largely thanks to the critical remarks I received posting my recordings here.
That said, I need to thank you very, very much. You have brightened my day (late evening, actually ), and I’ll never forget your kindness.

Thanks for listening, I’m really glad you like it. And, yes, experimenting brings the desired results, sooner or later, but it does. I also try different sounds, especially when recording my backing tracks.

First, it is most definitely NOT my intention to embarrass you in any way, Tomasz. Quite the contrary, the intent was to praise the level of your ability in several areas… you play so well & your are also very adept at the production side. Getting something to sound good is hard enough, then to get it posted in a way that still sounds good is another skill that I haven’t even begun to do well!
Secondly, time is only one factor in play here. Maybe you have more time available than many of us, but you also have dedication to your craft. That’s something that is missing in the “modern” world so often! It’s very evident that more than just time is in play… I can sense that you place a small bit of your soul in all that you play. That’s rare.
Lastly, I admit that practice time is a luxury for me & that work & home life leave me tired & “played out” most days. That’s part of why I enjoy this Community so much… other ‘regular’ people who are playing guitar as a hobby putting their hearts & souls into becoming better musicians! You & many others here inspire me to keep the flame lit & pick up the guitar when I can… even if it’s just to play a pentatonic scale before falling into bed at night… yes, to me you play with the mastery I aspire to acquire eventually!
So thank you to you & many, many others here. Yes, even those who can’t play an F chord yet but still show the love for guitar that I have inside!!!

Tod, first of all, thank you for sharing your thoughts.
I know, I know, Tod… It’s just that I honestly felt I didn’t deserve the praise. As I said, I realize my skills have improved is several areas but I don’t think I can be much better, I may master a new fingering of some fancy chord, but it often happens that I run out of fresh ideas, then I play some songs I like, just for fun. That also means practicing…
Let me quote two lines from one of my all-time favourite songs:
“He doesn’t play for the money he wins,
he don’t play for respect…”
(Sting, Shape Of My Heart)
I don’t ‘win’ any money playing, and it’s perfectly fine; if I get some respect then I’m just grateful to the people who showed it for finding something interesting in my music and making me believe what I do makes sense. But next time I post something I may have some sense of anxiety not to disappoint them…
