Freddie King - Hide Away cover

Woohoo! Jeff, that was so well played and very enjoyable to listen to and watch

I’ve only just started learning to play blues. This has really stoked that fire and inspired me to ‘work’ (play? ) harder with it :fire: :sunglasses:

Sounds amazing and so cool :sunflower:

Thanks Mike! So glad you enjoyed it and thanks so much for checking it out! :+1:

Thanks Phil!! Really appreciate that mate

Yeah, it is daunting to start. I only thought I’d try the first theme, but it kind of grew from there. At the beginning I was doing it at about 30% speed, took ages to build up. The good thing is that there are lots of repeating riffs, so if you get the 1st theme down, the 2nd and last (being almost a repeat of the 1st) are pretty much done also, the bridge is fairly straight forward as are the 3rd and 4th, just the 5th which is a real pain! At least it was for me

Thanks again! Totally give it another crack, really fun one to play  :+1:

Thank you, Jasmine! Really glad you enjoyed it and super appreciate your kind words :hugs:

That’s awesome! Makes me very happy to hear that! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: and of course, it’s definitely ‘play’ :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :joy:
Take care

Ahhh Jeff, I don’t even know where to start  Ok

I can’t offer any technical comments because quite frankly I am not worthy   What I can say is that there are some here, you included that just offer us up a great production every time and of course great guitar skills.

I loved the lighting in the room (or maybe that was DaVinci editing) but whatever it looked great. Intro scene and transition was great and you played the part as always with your sunnies  or maybe it was just that the lights were too damn bright . I think when we look up ‘cool’ in the dictionary there’ll be a picture of you with that guitar  :+1:

I also pondered over your guitar strap and it made me think that maybe mine is the wrong way around, if that’s even a thing, however it has made me rush off to check it and make sure that everyone in front can see the brand name  :ok_hand: :ok_hand:

Well done mate, great playing great production :+1:

EDIT: Oh, and thanks for the Tech info, you have me running off to check out lalal.ai

Bravo Jeff. Terrific. I did enjoy. No suggestions - I’m sure that you’re immersed enough in the piece to know what, if anything, needs a tweak. If 100% speed is your target, nudge each section up a little at a time as you work towards it. But 90% sounds great.

Great Job and thanks for the tip on lalal.ai

Hey Jeff! A little belated, as you already got so much positive feedback, but I’ve been out skiing yesterday and didn’t have the time to reply.
Wow, Wow, Wow   !!!
Whenever I open one of your AVOYP’s, I immediately know, another top quality performance will wait for me. And again, you somply blew me away :tornado:!
That was outstanding! Your progress is simply amazing! Your fingers are flying so elegantly and effortlessly over the fretboard   !
I’m far away with my knowledge to offer any substatial assessment, so I can only describe my feelings. Man! You’ve got the grooooove :star_struck:! Your timing seems to be very accurate, without being too “mechanical”, your feeling for the rhythm comes from inside, which is great! (so hard to describe that in English!). My subjective feeling is, that you are already passing the step from only playing the Blues by applying the criteria one by one how Blues should be played, I pretty much have the impression, you’re already able to express your inner feelings through the instrument and that’s what it’s all about, so one for the “feeling”:  and one for the Blues :blue_heart:!
I really admire what you are doing, be it Blues or Metal, so looking forward to see where it will take you.
Soundwise I’m a little with Nicole, a little less “gainy” and a bit more “twangy” are my favourite tones, but I see it as your own, a little metal biased tone and that’s more than ok! Happy to read you already had some time for Fender’s wonder machine and that you get lot’s of great tones out of it. When anybody deserves that, then you!

Hi Jeff!
wow, your recording was a surprise for me, and a very pleasent one. That metal-blues fusion was unexpected, but it totally worked. I wonder if you have just created a new genre . Either way, I liked it, it sounds great! :+1:

Regarding the issue that he high E string slips off the fret: I have a similar issue with my Epiphone Casino, but to a far lesser extend. I’ve read about this problem only in context of mis-adjusted bold on necks, but that cannot be the problem since you have an LP style guitar as you said. Maybe it’s worth that a luthier takes a look?

I always find your recording technique very interesting, this time especially your tip regarding lalal.ai. I definitely will check this service out. I really appreciate that you are always sharing these details with us! :heart_hands: :+1:

@CD02
Thanks Craig!! So glad you enjoyed it! Means a lot to me that you checked it out and thank you so much for your kind words! :hugs:

Thanks again! It was a mix of the two actually. The room has a window directly behind me and that worked nicely as a backlight to give the edges some detail. Then the room also has overhead ceiling mounted lights on a dimmer, so I played with that till it felt about right. And lastly I use a GVM 560AS Bi-Colour LED panel as a spotlight (tip: I have had to attach baking paper between its barndoors as a diffuser as the one that came with isn’t good enough to prevent flaring :joy:). Then, in DaVinci Resolve, I just play with the various colour/temperature/gain/etc. settings until I’m happy. Essentially I just grab a setting, scroll it back and forth to the extremes then settle it back where I think it looks good, before moving to the next one. Sometimes I feel the need to do another round of that after doing that with all the settings, but generally only takes a minute or two

Hmmm good point?! Maybe I have mine the wrong way round?! :flushed:  I always kind of just went with it that way, didn’t really think about it much! Is there a right way? Does anyone here know?! :joy:

No worries! I find it useful for this sort of thing. Not perfect but generally good enough for what I’m doing here. There are several other options out there, and advocates for those platforms here in the community due to the various pros/cons of each, but this is the one I went with. They often have sales on purchasing minutes, so definitely look out for those. I purchased something like 600 minutes for not that much ages ago, and that should do about 100 songs I guess

@Richard_close2u Thank you, Richard! That really means a lot! Thank you for checking it out! :+1:

@empolitch Thanks Elleot!! Really appreciate you checking it out  Lalal.ai is definitely worth checking, super handy! See my comments above about it to Craig
PS Welcome to the Community! I see it is your first post, although you may have been around for a while it seems? Thanks so much for commenting on my post. Hope to hear more from you if you choose to

@Helen0609 Thanks Andrea!! You are too kind!! Thank you so much for all your lovely words, hugely appreciate it! :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Sometimes I wonder if they fly a little too much! :joy: Always a constant battle to keep those little blighters under control!

Thank you!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I tried to focus on that as an aspect of learning the tune. Justin talks a lot about getting the vibe right in the lesson. Very glad that I managed to convey some of that  (BTW very well described in English!)

:joy: Thank you! :blue_heart:

Yeah, totally see where you are coming from! I experimented with several different tones but kept getting drawn back to the higher gain ones, that metal bias just won’t be kept down!

@franzek Thanks so much, Franz!! You are very kind, really means a lot to me! I’d love to claim a new genre, but sadly there are others who’ve beat me to it, darn it! :confounded:  However, maybe I’m contributing a little
Really interesting to hear you had a similar high E string issue with your Casino. Feels good to not be completely alone on this! :joy: But I think you’re right, I might take it to get looked at, could be a simple fix :crossed_fingers:

Thanks again, Franz! lalal is certainly worth a look. See my notes above to Craig about it. Really useful for this sort of thing

Nice light Jeff :+1: looked them up. Not a bad piece of kit. I might look at something similar as I was looking for something that would tick the boxes as a music room light :+1:

Hi Jeff,
I had already stomped on the ground a few times to alert the other side of the planet that it was time for heavier guitar work here…

But the Metal guy is going to do some rock-blues… :scream::sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:    :man_bowing:

I really hope that you will do more of this style…

Greetings and thanks :sunglasses:

Yes, I will, really enjoying it! :+1:

Thanks so much for checking it out

Take care :hugs:

Jeff this is faboulus! Sounding and feeling sooooo good! But I wondered about the level of distorsion, because I ignore quite anything about the Blues but somehow I would say my ear is used to less distortion in Blues…but I know I’m probably wrong! Anyway it might be about personal taste…and from you this is exactly what I would expect! Love it!:sunglasses::star_struck:

Thanks Silvia! Really appreciate your very kind words and for taking time to check this out :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Yeah totally! There is lots of blues that uses a very clean tone, and of course a huge amount that’s played on an acoustic. But there is also plenty that has varying amounts of distortion, from that subtle “edge of breakup” tone to full-on fuzz-like distorted goodness! :metal::laughing: I pretty much like all of it, however, as you’re well aware , I tend more to the heavy end of the scale, but I have noted that I need to be a little cautious of this so that I don’t alienate the majority of my audience! :grimacing: :joy:

Thanks again and take care!

Hi Jeff. I’m a bit late to this party and have read through all the other guy’s posts. They’ve said it all so no point in repeating things other than to say that was terrific all round. I really enjoyed the listen and loved the blues with a hint of metal tone!

Thanks again mate! Take care

My man!! Gettin’ creamy with just a pick.

Don’t read into that to much;
just excellent and very enjoyable.

Never let it go, because you’ve got it.

Share it, 'cause it’s bigger on the return lick!
