Frenetic Fingers First or Last Finale?

Wasn’t really sure where to post this but I think it might be an issue or concern that most of us encounter. When you listen to an old favourite or classic track, in your mind you can nail the rhythm. In your mind you can nail the groove and the bass. You pick up your guitar and it all goes to :rat: :poop:

So why when you put the guitar down and immerse yourself in the music does it all seems to fit ?

Not saying it fits like a glove. But why can i really feel the groove on a desktop but if I try to play it all goes wrong ?

So we all do some freestyle rhyt

Toby I didn’t know you can play Air Keyboard! Very relatable and means we all can immerse in the music, connect with it and “nail it”… To me it’s all about developing the technique to play it and at the same time removing any obstacles from our body and mind to let it flow, just like you would remove any unnecessary stone or or wood or garbage from the bed of a river to let the water flow…very Classical point of view, but I find much truth in it regarding my own self.

Assuming the question isn’t rhetorical, then I’m pretty sure it’s because when you don’t have an instrument then 100% of your attention can go to the music and rhythm - moving your fingers on the table is automated and requires no mental attention. When you pick up a guitar or other instrument then some attention is needed for choosing and physically playing the right notes. The better you get the less attention is needed for the act of playing and the easier stuff becomes…apparently

In future far far away ! How many times do we pick up to practice or just play a lick and think that is impossibly fast but without the guitar in your hand, easily achievable ! I believe it is the mind (can’t do outlook) that hinders progress and not the body, which seems capable of much more.

100%. I used to know a chap who had really bad Parkinsons, couldn’t hold a cup of tea, but he had played piano all his life. Put him in front of a keyboard and he could still play beautifully. Sometimes the mind can get in the way.

I think our minds and fingers are both capable of doing what we want in order to play guitar, to play music. It’s the connections between them that need improvement. We can only make those connections stronger and automatic by practice and playing.
Our minds also need to make the connection between each note on the fretboard and what it sounds like before we play it.

Is that possible?
Yes, I’m sure it is.

Can we achieve it?
Erm…ask me again later….much later!
