Midway through string change, before changing them I decided to polish the frets before putting the new strings on, wow, the amount of crap on the frets.
I noticed similar when I first used fret polish. Black soot type stuff. I was very surprised, as Im pretty fastidious about daily cleanliness with my guitar. Part of living in an industrial age I suppose.
