Funeral For A Friend (Elton John)

This is a cover of the tune by that well known guitar player Elton John :rofl:
Actually the guy playing the guitar is Davey Johnstone - always liked listening to his playing.

oh my , its awesome :open_mouth:

its one of my favourite song by Elton john
not many people know this one !

Its just the intro but its powerful

awesome job !

Fabulous stuff Phil I thought you’d been a bit quiet obviously had your head down on the latest magnum opus. Awesome work again!

Phil

What an excellent job you have done, a life long favourite song of mine, I got Yellow Brick Road when it was first released and is still well up there. So many good songs on it. It must have taken you some time and a lot of effort to put all the tracks down and mixed them and then sync the videos together to the music, I struggle with one backing track and video and me playing guitar on Garage band.

Great job and playing!

Cheers

Adrian

Superb! A brilliant version of an excellent tune.

Nice one Phil, Davey Johnstone always delivers, and always with something tasty. Was waiting for ‘Love lies Bleedin’. Excellent job, thanks for sharing.

… and so does Phil Jones :grinning_face: Super stuff again!

Phil, that was great!
You chose amazing music for cover and played it wonderfully :+1:
I know how much effort and skill it took from you, bravo :clap:
Thanks for sharing!

Sus pups* n socks what’s not to like, well done my friend. Another exquisite cover.

  • so ok you switched to the normal Strat after a bit, both had a super tone.

Nice to see the digits dancing across both key and fret board. And just a hint of posse merch ! Great job Phil. :+1:

@GrumpyMac

Thanks Deborah! Me too, it was definitely a dip into the prog world for him

@mathsjunky Cheers Paul

@AJSki2fly Thanks Adrian! Agreed - Yellow Brick Road contains some of his finest work.

@beejay56 Thanks Brian!

@Malz

I stopped short of that one because (i) the piano gets harder, and (ii) it has vocals!

@Socio Thanks James! - knew you’d appreciate the guitar work of a fellow jo, err ‘Scotsman’

@crocodile1 Cheers Leo, it was quite hard work - I think I need to try something a little less complex in the future!

@TheMadman_tobyjenner Cheers Toby, yep, I used the sustainer strat just for the fadey-in bits in the slow part. Tonally, when they’ve been through all the gubbins I can’t hear much difference between them…but then I’ve done those blind youtube “les paul or strat?” tests and have failed miserably.

One man band! This is beyond impressive, so well executed and produced, both audio and video. Thank you for sharing Phil! :slightly_smiling_face:

Amazing work!

You always post great stuff, this is no exception. Well done with all the instruments.

I always thought this intro would make an amazing music for a Leiji Matsumoto’s movie
it would perfectly match the Captain Harlock’s universe ( for those who know the reference )

One of my earliest memories in my childhood is my dad playing the piano portion of this song on our upright piano from the other room. Its the reason I pursued piano as a child, because of how much I loved hearing this song. I can say with honestly that this song has been a lifelong favorite.

:scream::scream::scream: that was terrible Phil :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Mate, firstly this was an absolutely EPIC track I actually really enjoyed much of his earlier stuff. The track just captures so much emotion, annnndddd🤔 wow, you captured the lot mate.

Just great watching you weave you magic, :clap::clap::clap: brilliant.

Love the video work too Phil, great to see it all taking shape. What drum Pad is that you are using?

This is an amazing production Phil! :clap::clap:

Amazing Phil. A super recording.

@Boris1565 @metramaks @Ontime @artax_2 @CD02 @TheCluelessLuthier @Willsie Thank you very much for the listen folks and for the encouraging comments!

@artax_2 I wish I had learned piano properly - I took about 6 months of weekly lessons when I was in my twenties then ignored it! I feel more comfortable with organ or synth where there’s less touch involved.

It’s a Roland SPD-SX-Pro Craig. I can’t play drums very well so I often end up overlaying separate tracks for main drums and cymbals.
