Was invited to do a set at a long time friends 80th birthday party. I remember playing at her 70th as well and leading a laughter yoga session there. Anyway, at our music club before my performance we do a quick sound check. And lately I’ve gotten a few laughs during that because I say to the audience I have a new sound check song that’s very popular with the grandchildren and proceed to play: If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands… Always gets a good laugh.
At yesterday’s 80th party I was the first at to perform and the sound check was a bit different so I didn’t try that song. Played the first song of my set and towards the end a young girl of about 4 years old came up and started dancing. So when I finished my song, I asked her name and then told her, Cloe, I have a song just for you and kicked off with If you’re happy and you know it.
She reacted well and the whole crowd joined in, it was a good size party, probably close to 100 people there. So it ended up being a lot of fun. Not sure I want to add it to my regular set list but will keep it for any gigs with little kids there. It’s in Justin’s childrens song book.
