Furch Bridge Pins - Custom By Me

Hello all,

I would like to share something that I did and I am proud of!

I really like bridge pins with some color inlays and for my Furch Pioneer there is not option to have ebony pins with that, because officially they dont fabricate them and other pins does not fit, originals are slightly larger and they have different shape, because its something hard pressured or something like that…

So I decided I will do it by myself!

I ordered abalone pearl inlays, original Furch ebony bridge pins for Pioneer, draw 3D model of tool and printed it physically, also ordered some polishing tools and found in my cabinet glazure for car, so I can use it for polish. And process can begin!

Original left, other brand middle and right different shape and size:

I draw this tool with cone and precise hole, so I got my drill in correct angle. The cone is for pin so it stays in place and four feets for assembly together:

I did few tests about tollerance and printed full tool:

Then I took out and start to polish little abalone inlays:

Then I put all pins into tool and assembled it ready to drill:

You cant see it properly but I got 1.9-2mm signs here so I know how deep I have to drill:

I drilled the required deep of hole and tried it, I drilled it like on 4 attempts, step by step so I dont go too deep:

Then I put a tiny super little dot of super glue inside and then put the inlay in:

Before and after my first pin:

I did whole process for all six pins:

Two from the left done by me, middle big is some chinese and white too, check out the gap some manufacturer did, I dont have same mistake:

I really love it and I am so happy for that. Thanks anyone interested in my process.

Thank you very much guys. I am really in love with this and this “own touch” making even deeper conection with my guitar.

Right up my street, Michal, it is exactly what I do, and the feeling you get is brilliant, well done mate, cheers HEC

Very cool. I too like the look of the inlays you put into the pins–it adds a bit more warmth/personality to the guitar.

Nice precision work. I love disappearing into little, fussy projects like this that have no real consequence for failure other than that I’ve learned a bunch about my process, tools, skills, & mindset. They often do come out well, and I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I later look at them and remember the path that became their existence.
(But wouldn’t my time have been better spent dragging through Tik Tok?, he asks knowing full well that he wouldn’t think so)

Thanks for documenting and sharing,
Bruce
