Well, technically, it’s “Second Home by the Sea”. It was an interesting exercise in transcription to see how it all fitted together. The prog purists sometimes poo-poo anything post Gabriel, but they did do some good songs in the Phil era too. This is one of them for me!
Oh - I should apologise for the short vocal section at the end. It sounds like it’s sung by someone from The X Factor It was a piece of software not a real voice!
Private Jones excels yet again with a clean pair of socks to boot. Despite it being post PG there is still a proggy vibe to this one until Phil went full TOTPs. So yeah a goodun for the second era. Production was really polished as in well buffed and not reminiscent of eastern Europe. Was the geezer at the end IA or some other trickery ?
When I saw the title I knew I wanted to immediately listen to it.
Second thing I saw “Twistor59” Ah, of course… who else but you could deliver this one? Enjoyed it a lot! Thank you Phil!
Always loved this song and also part one that we as public sang along to and had to do the ghost sounds as an intro to the song when Phil Collins told us so. I will have to dig out all my Genesis CDs now
Haha, now I remember I helped out at the DJ desk at a friends 30th birthday party for a short moment. It was late already and I chose to play “Abacab” and to my surprise the dance floor emptied and the last people went home. Oh, my fault!
Never understood it!
Always glad to listen to (and watch) your oeuvres!
Another superb production, Phil. Difficult to find new superlatives, truly incredible work. Same as Lisa, I always wonder how much time it takes to transcribe, learn to play, record and then mix audio/video together for something like this?
I have a short Yes medley mostly done. Someone offered to do the vocals, but we haven’t had the chance to arrange the meeting yet.
@Lisa_S@Boris1565 This one took about two months to do. The hardest part was the drums - what I ended up with was only an approximation to Phil’s part - I only have the drum sample pad and I haven’t practiced much! The guitar was mostly simple triad chords, so not too bad. For the keyboard, this was one where Mr Banks wasn’t being too flashy fortunately!
It’s quite impressive, this one was “only” two months given all the parts you had worked out and played yourself, let alone the editing. That’s dedication and passion for music, I guess. Amazing!
the returns… with a full six-minute epic!
I’ll not bore you with the superlative complements you’ve already rightly received, but just toss my virtual bouquet at the screen and give you an (IRL) applause
Bravo!
Simply out of curiosity, do you sometimes record short clips and then edit them together (or even copy and paste eg. for drums) or tend to stick to playing the whole thing or long sections in one go?
I was quite relieved you didn’t burst into song at the end, leaving the rest of us with that tiny bit of reassurance that none of us are perfect! off to you, Sir!
I’m guessing you mean the bass pedals Byron? Genesis have always used them as part of their sound!
@brianlarsen Yes, I recorded the drums in sections - I couldn’t hold it all in mind at once - not enough functioning neurons! I did the same for bass - I think I also did the keyboard in two sections. The rhythm gtr I did all in one, so it wasn’t all cheating
