I thought the second hand guitar market was quite depressed at the moment ![]()
I imagine Kirk Hammett and Paul Allen (who bought the Woodstock Hendrix strat for $1.3m in 1993) are rubbing their hands.
Garcia’s Tiger just went for $11 mil
I wonder if at some point if the value of such things drops through the floor? I mean at some point no one alive will know who Dave Gilmour was and then does it mostly become just an old guitar? I don’t see guitars like that in the same light as I do as say a classic Ferrari that doesn’t go on to be cloned in vast quantities. Or maybe there’ll always just be wealthy people who’ll pay to have something that no one else has regardless of what it is?
It’s an obscene amount of money to pay for a guitar and there will come a time when it’s just a few bits of wood some plastic and steel strings. But I guess it’s his money and he can spend it how he chooses.
