I had what I felt was a pretty productive pratice session tonight. I have been neglecting songs and decided I had done that long enough. I went all the way back to Grade 1, Module 1 and chose this song, which I had never heard by the way. I decided to try the strumming pattern where you hit the base note on beats 1 and 3 and the treble on beats 2 and 4. (and by the way I used the C and G chords rather A and D). I was having trouble hitting the single base note, and so I started trying to hit the lowest 2 or 3 strings on beats 1 and 3 and the highest three on beats 2 and 4. At first, the base part wasn’t sounding too good. But after a few minutes, my grip on the pick began to lighten, and this made all the difference. Suddenly, it started sounding good. I really felt the rhythm. I just sat there alternating between a few bars of G and a few bars of C with that stumming pattern constantly going. I had the all open string thing going on in some of the changes, but I just kept going. I could feel the strings pushing my pick. That’s how light I was holding it. I haven’t yet really executed the song, but this was my first practice and I think I’m really close. Anyway, it was really productive and I just thought I’d share. Thanks to everyone at Justin Guitar for this fantastic resource.
