Gonna Lose - Original - Alykat with support by Domi7

Another cooperation between Alykat and me.

As working together before went really well, we knew we’d do some other project sooner or later.
And as I am taking the BLIM classes at the moment Aly suggested some Blues.
I wasn’t aware she meant really slow blues in minor.
So, as the stuff I came up with was too fast or too jazzy, she came up with a drum track from the internet and recorded guitar arpeggios in the style she was envisioning. It’s that clear single coil guitar you hear slightly to the left.

I added short chops and two more guitar tracks, adding one each verse. Those a bit more dirty sounding guitars with humbuckers.

Aly did the core of the song: lyrics, vocals, main guitar.
As it is a blues, we didn’t have to reinvent the wheel regarding chords and song structure.
I added a bass, accompanying guitars and figured out how the song would start and end. So, also did those intro and outro solos
(will have to practice way more for soloing…)

Then, finally, there’s two solos in the middle done by Aly.

I hope you’ll like it!

@Alykat Thank you, Aly!
I’m learning a few more things with every new song

Absolutely fantastic! I’d give you 5 ‘hearts’ for it, were it possible  Thanks for sharing. The key is Am, and I like the rhythm a lot, so my first reaction was to grab my guitar (always standing right behind me, waiting) and play along, which turned out to be a great experience as the chord progression is typical for a minor blues; a good BT for improvisation.
Great job, both of you. The vocal line is, as usual, awesome. Cheers!

Great collaboration! Wow, wow, wow! :star_struck: :star_struck: :star_struck:!
Dominique, BLIM already pays off! :+1:.

Thank you for all of the flowers! That’s nice to hear!
Here, I felt a bit like a hired musician, because Aly did the heart of the song, but it’s great to know that my guitar learning is bearing a few fruits!

By the way, from those starting bits I did that were too fast or too jazzy for Aly’s taste, I made my own instrumental (which I’m not sure about leaving it like it is or what to add) which made me think of you, Tomasz, because you’re often playing relaxing, interesting, and I think every now and then a bit jazzy instrumental pieces.

Thank you for all your nice words, Andrea!

Thanks a lot, Rogier!

I’d like to do some video at some point soon. Aly, I don’t know.
It won’t be a great joy for the viewer to see me, but at least you could see that I’m really playing

Thank you very much, David! I’m glad I could work with Aly!

Dominique & Allison

Possibly the best production I’ve heard in the time I’ve been on Justin’s site. The varying guitar lines, almost other voices in the song; the spare, understated lyric; the subtle balance of quiet embellishments, left and right. Loved it!

It never ceases to amaze me, the abundance of feedback, compliments & comaraderie that this site offers! Thank you to each & everyone of you for listening & commenting, its means a lot to me.

I knew Dominique was in the blues class & I did suggest this as a way to put his skills to use. He’s much to humble & has no ego & I was forever telling him his solos were perfect! I see everyone agrees. I’m sure he is feeling really good about his playing right now. He did way more than provide support on this song, he was an equal contributor & collaborator.

Im glad everyone enjoyed this! Im just bumbling around & really have no clue what Im doing, just having fun!

Thank you everyone!

Thank you for listening, Eddie, and your nice words!

Thank you Richard! Initially I looked at applying more licks I recently learned but while trying I found out that many were meant for the blues in major. Also, with this calm song, I thought I’d better try to have some thread than packing too many licks in here.

After all the other nice words already, that’s too much! Help!
I can just reply that you probably missed a lot of the songs posted here, haha.

Well… about some fields of my playing - yes. Most important is I’m having fun and see I’m progressing. It often is slow and takes commitment, but I’m really glad about the journey overall.
And I’m glad being in this supportive community!

See, it’s been only a few people so far, the bad reviews are yet to come

And - thank you for all the nice words, Aly!

Amazing song, already listened to it twice and probably will do a few more times.
Won’t write a lot, just add another two cents about Dominique’s solos since we’ve talked about it before. Firstly, they’re great! Secondly, it’s not about technical proficiency, especially in this kind of music. What is way more important is to get the right feel, vibe, whatever you call it. And you nailed it, they fit the song really well. The only thing I feel is missing is a bit of vibrato, but you’ll quickly get there with BLIM.

I highly doubt it for some reason.

@domi7 You really know when to add something like this…
I did not know it, but I can see I am really into blues fingerstyle and hearing something like this feeds my hunger. Really great piece. Thanks for sharing.
Thinking about saving this one to USB and listen in my car while driving highway. The days are getting sunny and hot.

Thank you, Artem!
And your comments on my soloing mean a lot to me.
Yes, Vibrato has a lot of potential for imrovement in my playing
I’ll continue working on it!
On some solos, I did more vibrato, and on others concentration somehow went elsewhere… Soloing is not my natural talent, but I’m glad to be on my way to improve on it.

Thank you for your nice words, Michal!
It seems we somehow meet often in these forums

Incidentally I checked quite a few collabs out earlier today and there were a few of yours and these were really impressive productions! I’ll still have to do lots of homework
So, hearing these nice words from you means a lot to me!

Holy smoke guys, great sound and epic effort by both of you. Whilst I’ve never really seen myself as a Blues kind of guy, I love this, and must admit that I do actually have soft spot for that smokey cigar and brandy club style of Blues.

Awesome yet again

Thank you so much, Hec!

Thank you for your kind words!
And - was it Aly telling you the above?
That’s pretty much the words she used at the beginnng when she told me the setting of the song to be made.
