Hello Justin, Greetings from Bogota (Colombia). I have just finished Grade One on both the WEB and the APP, I found both to be excellent tools. I have been trying and trying to play guitar for many years now and I play some songs, but my level is very bad, that’s why I decided to start from scratch and be able to play ā€œMetalā€ at a good level. I found your course excellent, I am going to take each and every one of the 7 recommendations to be able to move on to grade 2. Thank you very much and I congratulate you for your courses, which are of an excellent level.

Grade 1 has honestly been such an amazing everything for learning guitar
When you’re on youtube or other sites theres so much pressure from everywhere and things grabbing your attention to learn this and that or whatnot
But here i was able to be pointed to the right direction AND be given the advice i needed to learn things at my own pace, not to mention its a huge motivation booster, and i think i’ve been doing great
Onto grade 2!

Welcome Oliver! How wonderful that you are starting guitar early. I wish I had stuck with it when I was your age! We have an Introduce Yourself topic in the community…head over there and say hello (again) and you’ll receive a warm welcome, I’m sure.

Just finished the lessons in grade one. Going at my own pace and waiting until I had reached or almost reached your goals, it’s taken me a little over two months to get to this point. I won’t say I’ve ā€œpassedā€ the grade just yet, as I think there are still some elements I could use some more practice on, but I feel confident that I can reach that point and I’m looking forward to continuing onto the next grade.

Thank you for all that you’ve done, Justin!

Hello Justin, I’m Sakina,

I really love these lessons! I’m interested in learning electric guitar and I wanted to go through your comprehensive lessons before
I own an electric guitar.

Thank you so much for generosity of creating these guitar lessons and offering them for free.
I wouldn’t be able to afford electric lessons at the level you teach. I’m also interested in learning songwriting and music theory for electronic guitar.

What electronic guitar looks cool, that lets me play pop, rock and heavy metal genres and that’s lighter to carry? I’m in a wheelchair so
I would need one to hold while I play an electric guitar once I own one.

Let me know please

My dream is to work with Seth MacFarlane as a musician and songwriter someday, jamming with him on several of his jazz albums, write songs for our future jazz albums and write jazz songs for his future jazz albums too.
When I achieve these dreams and I meet Seth someday I will tell him I learned electronic guitar professionally from you! :star_struck:

Also, Justin you mentioned in your lesson in Grade 1 that you have to tap your foot when you’re playing. I can’t tap my foot in my wheelchair so what could I do instead?

Please me know,
Thank you

Hi Sakina. Welcome to the forums!

check out the headless that Rogier has in his recent videos. He has other styles as well, but I know those headless can be pretty light if you get one that is hollow in the body. I have a Strandberg chambered guitar that is pretty light and easy to handle in a tight space behind my desk.

Rogier slings his a lot higher than I would so it can fit in the wheelchair with him. You will need to look around the site here for other videos of his playing other styles.

Hi @Sakina, welcome to the forum! Justin indeed says to tap your foot, but not everyone does. Quite a few people bob their head for example. The key thing is to move some part of your body to help you keep the rhythm - it doesn’t matter too much which part

Lisa recommends chewing gum, might that be a tip for you?
Cheers Withold

Would not go as far to call it a recommendation, Withold. But, well, for me it worked.

@Sakina In case you don’t like chewing gum I second what @LadyOfTheCastle Els is suggesting: Nodding or bobbing your head works fine, too. Often do it like this nowadays.

For that:

I feel free to again tag Rogier @roger_holland for some profound suggestions. (Thanks in advance, Rogier )

But in general you can play all genres you mention on (almost) all electric guitars. Playing comfort is more important than looks (even though this should not be neglected, too).

PS: Welcome to the community, Sakina!

Hi Sakina @Sakina

First , Thanks Lisa for the call as I did read Michael’s post but I kind of missed/forgot Sakina’s post

Sakina, since this would be a bit off topic, I ask you to look me up in my Learning log (there you can find an example of a light, (2,3 kg the black one) super small body guitar where even with a rest on your rhythm guitar arm, it is still… not easy… but playable… my right rest has now been permanently removed) …see some video`s with totaly different styles i did with that and more …
If you would like to talk about your disability and/or additional problems in detail and not in the open, feel free to ask questions or provide explanations in a private email …

the first 5 years I couldn’t move/tap my feet or ankles a millimeter ( I have regained some feeling and movement there ) , and still playing/practising went quite well the first years, of course foot tapping is the best for more reasons, but if it’s not possible we just look for other things that work.

Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

And wishing you all the best in this amazing journey :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: ,
Rogier :sun:
