Guitar and Jiu Jitsu :)

Random question ; I wonder if Justin himself can see this question  Have heard him mentioning a few times he practices Jiu Jitsu. If anyone else does, have you found it affecting motor skills at all for the guitar ? I try to be quite careful and tape my hands but it can be strenuous on the hands and yes I know No-Gi is a good option to counteract, just wondering how other peoples’ experiences may have been practising both

I am practising Kempo Arnis for a few years now. Ground fighting is a part of it, also classical Karate, self defense in form of “Kapap” and “Krav maga”, knife and stick fighting… we really do have quite large spectre of knowledge and exercises.
We are also present in multiple countries in EU so I would encourage you to come check us out :+1: :+1: :+1:

Sure, bruises are a part of martial arts and sometimes they do affect guitar practising. But I still feel that sport in general is good for physical and mental health, and also gives us power do deal with various challenges and B/S from day to day.

So yes, I gladly do both :guitar: :martial_arts_uniform:

I’m rather new here so know nothing about Justins Jiu Jitsu activities. But - I know that Justin is learning to play left handed, which I believe is an attempt to get a better feeling for all the obstacles a new guitarist meets. In this role Justin calls himself NITSUJ (Justin backwards). I was wondering if maybe that’s what you heard as Jiu Jitsu?

No, Justin definitely does Ju Jitsu

This is from one of his newsletters

I stand corrected. Thanks for the update!

I am familiar with his left handed practise. But as the below poster mentioned, Justin does Jiu Jitsu and as a practitioner myself I was wanting to know from him or anyone else that practices martial arts and guitar how their hand health was  as some grappling arts are quite grip intensive.

Got it!
