Welcome to the Guitar Challenges. Each ‘challenge’ is basically an open invitation to anyone and everyone to play a song, an improvisation, a study-piece etc and post a recording – just for the fun of it.
So, whether you are a relative beginner learning the basic chords and strumming pattern of a song, a more experienced player adding a little fancy fretwork, if you want to do a little finger-picking, or you want to sing and play at the same time … you can join in with these challenges.
Important:
The challenge is to yourself.
These are not competition threads.
There are no prizes for making the ‘best’ recordings.
There is no shame for being at the beginner stages.
This is for FUN!
If you do want some constructive advice and feedback on your playing then that is cool. Just ask. Otherwise this is all about positivity, encouragement and having a go.

Created in Garageband in the key of A. It’s major and/or minor key neutral.
Weekend Funk - key of G. Hint: it is pretty much just G to C as it sits. url=https://soundcloud.com/user-35496968/weekend-funk

Well well well… This was difficult. For 1, I am not familiar with the C lydian scale. So I googled it and checked out the main website here and found that it is a G major scale mode. Well hey! I know the G major scale. And it said I could use the C major pentatonic! Yay! I know the Amin pentatonic. I can use that instead right? And then there’s always the BB box! So yea I made this with the G maj, Am pentatonic and the BB box. It was good practice to move between scales but I wouldn’t call mine a proper solo

It seems I stayed mostly in A Dorian and C Lydian, with and a couple of G Mixolydian excursions.Quite a few fluff ups, a botched pinch harmonic etc. but it’s all part of the jamming experience ;D

Okay. here’s a one-take. Mind you, I have no idea what I’m doing, or where I’m going, which will become painfully evident after about 10 seconds. Couldn’t go the distance, only 5 mins, but you’ll probably hit end way before that. But it was fun!! Way out of my element again.

After a recommendation from DavidP I picked up this challenge and put a weird video of some of my art to the result. There’s a special guest appearance by one of Lynn’s paintings in the video. Thanks, Keith

Hi all,
I’ve been looking for something to replace the competition to give me a canvas to be creative and I came across this section. At the same time coincidentally I’ve been working on my improvisation so this ticks both boxes.

I found this tricky and stopped and restarted over a few times. Clint, you put in starts and stops in odd places just to catch us out! Anyway, here’s my effort - not totally happy with it, but it’ll have to do. Neil
