Performances for me are like buses, you wait for ages and then two come along at the same time – well not quite but 10 days between. This was our usual summer concert in front of a non-paying audience. The theme this year was Country and Blues Songs. We have been working on the set for quite a few months eventually whittling down it to nine cover songs. We were first on as the warmup for the second group who are very capable and experienced players.
Country Roads – John Denver
On the road again – Willie Nelson
Rhinestone Cowboy – Glen Campbell
Busted – Johnny Cash
Rocky Top Tennessee – Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Song of the South - Alabama
Back Home Again – John Denver
Love me Tender – Elvis Presley
Can’t help falling in love with you – Elvis Presley
Here is the official recording.
I am at the far right as you look at the stage wearing a red bandana, if you are wondering why I am not close to the next person, it was because Andy played lead guitar on some of the songs so needed space to change guitars. Didn’t do any real singing this time most of the songs were in a key that does not suit my voice, at least that was my excuse this time. If you are wondering about the flag waving on the last song it is because Can’t Help …… is the adopted song by the local and my football club which has just been promoted to the Premier League.
Hec @DeltaTyne
Thanks, I did think about you when I mentioned the flag with the last song, at least you were not like the couple in the front row who were Mags! I must confess when they were relegated eight years or so I came to conclusion that they would never play in the premiere league again in my lifetime, got that wrong. Having said that it is going to be a difficult season and a hard watch at time.
David @BurnsRhythm
It is enjoyable but a lot of hard work goes into it.
I am getting worried, talking to Andy about his butterscotch coloured tele and he said it was an MIM. Now the concern is that I actually know what the initials stand for, definitely worrying!
Paul @mathsjunky
Yes, I feel very fortunate to have a local and very active club.
Craig @CD02
Thanks, yes I think the audience enjoyed it.
As you say a lot of people up here, including the other lot, wanted them back in the Premier League but some like my wife have mixed feelings about it. Yes she wanted them to win at Wembley in the playoff game, allegedly the most valuable game in football worth a reported at least £200m. But as I said to Hec it could be a hard watch in the coming season, but all football supporters hope for the best for their team. Not looking forward to VAR although it did save us in the playoff final, with a goal disallowed.
David @DavidP
Thanks, I guess we had two things to do, obviously to entertain people who come along and improve ourselves as guitar players. We do put a lot of thought into the set list, having songs that people will know and sing along to some of them but also give them songs that they have probably not heard before. I like to think we succeed on both counts.
Gunhild @Gunhild
I like to think people were entertained, but perhaps it was the free entry and free food that brought them along, just kidding.
Jim @jvlynch
We didn’t haver any ukulele in our group the other group did have a mandolin. These types of songs work well with acoustic guitars and the odd lead guitar part.
yes they did have a really bad season some time back but you’ve got to be in it to win it so good luck to them. I’ll be watching when they come up against Arsenal
Craig @CD02
They a bad season indeed and I thought there was no way back, but football is a strange game at times. They have clawed there way back with an ownership change, some good choice of players and coaches.
You are due to visit in early November, I think by then we will have a good idea how things are going to turn out.
