Guitar shop recommendations in London

We are visiting London for a few days, and our hotel is near the British Museum. Which seems to be around the corner from Denmark Street . I think it’s the music gods telling me to spend some time in the shops and maybe buy something I can bring back .

Denmark Street seems to be full of guitar shops and my family’s patience won’t last more than an hour or two… would love to hear suggestions for must-visit shops, or non-guitar gear I could sneak inside my luggage home! I know about the Gibson Garage, but I also want to visit shops that have some history to them.

Thanks!

So many good ones to choose from (I used to work around the corner).

Rgent Sounds at number 4 has some good history…

" No. 4 Regent Sounds Studio has played host to The Rolling Stones recording their first demo and album, David Bowie (then Jones) recorded in the building with his then band The Lower Third and Black Sabbath’s first two albums were also recorded here. The Eagles even rehearsed ‘On the Border’ at No. 4. The Who recorded ‘A Quick One’ here and Elton John played sessions here too. Regent Sounds Studio’s corridors were also filled with other legends like Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney."

Hi Ashu, I can’t help you there, I’m afraid, but there has to be a lot and no doubt, a guitar, guitar shop. cheers HEC

Denmark St is great
For browsing…

Been a couple of times when in London. Most recently a couple of weeks ago when I was looking for something specific. Im sure you can get something there due to the sheer range of shops, but make sure you check prices against online.

The Gibson Garage is fantastic too and not far away, worth a visits.

Guitar guitar in Camden as well

Even if you find that the online price is lower, you should still buy from the local shop. That is what keeps the local shops alive. :guitar: :musical_keyboard: :trumpet:

Yep. I’m always willing to spend a little more to help keep my local shop in business. The only stuff I buy online is things they don’t carry and can’t get.

as long as they price match or get relatively close then yep

I had composed this message but then left it in my drafts :-). I’m back in London this weekend, did my Abbey Road pilgrimage, and remembered this topic…

I enjoyed my trip to Denmark Street last month, it’s definitely a fun trip for guitarists! I managed to hit every shop briefly but spent the most time at Regent, Hanks and Gibson Garage. I also sneaked into one in Camden while we were checking out the local market.

Sharing a couple pics below.
