Guitar support

I have been feeling restricted by the guitar support I have been using. I have a Woodside and a Murata (very similar) and they are great for the traditional classical position. However, I like a hybrid position to protect my left shoulder and they just aren’t adjustable enough and certainly not short enough.

So on a whim I got this contraption from the Great River in South America Store for $35 or so. Contraption is apt and it looks like it would be a pain to adjust. It uses suction cups, which I hate, and didn’t include film for matte finish guitars.

It took all of two minutes to adjust and bam! Perfect. It seems quite solid, is seriously adjustable, yet easy to adjust and locks down well. It enables the suction cups to be at advantageous angles, so hopefully they will stick.

Sure looks funny, maybe not the most elegant. But from a guy who has tried way, way too many such gadgets, I am quite impressed.

Wouldn’t a strap be an easier solution ? The ultimate guitar support ?

Of course it would.

But I have a quirk that makes wearing a strap, or anything else around my neck, very uncomfortable. I had the same problem in my medical residency. Couldn’t wear a white lab coat or hang a stethoscope around my neck. Neckties are right out. I am just weird like that.

Straps also aren’t as stable as a good support. They make more sense if you stand and play.

I also have two of three guitars without strap buttons. They are very rarely in classical guitars, but even my steel string lacks them.

Thanks for sharing your experience and pictures.
Always helpful to see what’s out there in the world.
Hope this provides the relief you’re after.

We are here playing guitar, after all, to have fun. Looking for, and finding a solution is also fun.

How cool you found a way to eliminate an annoyance.

I have a strong suspicion you are not the sole member of the group who finds a strap very irritating…(maybe you are a soul member though  )

More a “sole” member. I am all feet on the guitar….

It is available in the UK through (guess where ) Amazon amongst others, just do a search for
