Very good Gordon. You do this one pretty good. It is hard to sing, but you are great. Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas, Gordon. I enjoyed your performance. Well done!
Aw quit with the apologies, Gordon. You sussed it out just fine. Seriously, I enjoyed the song-- beginnning to end. It is a tricky tune to carry.
Great job, Gordon! It was very enjoyable to listen. You have a lovely voice!
Merry Christmas Have a wonderful holiday season

Brian, David, Toby. Thanks for the listen and kind comments guys.
David you mentioned fluid strumming. Tbh I found the strumming a little challenging with the sus chords and the 3/4 timing but I got there in the end I think.
Brian you often comment on my sound balance and I think I’ve got it better on this one. I raised the height of my music stand a bit which brought my phone higher and a little nearer my mouth. And yes I can dust this one off every year now.
Is this the one who cycled all the way to Berlin?
Yes Toby, who needs a fading choir?

Thanks so much all of you. Glad you enjoyed my version of this Christmas classic. I’ll probably play it a couple more times this week then pack it away until next year by which time I’ll have forgotten how to play it.
Can I round off this thread by wishing everyone who commented and liked my Christmas song (and of course everyone else ) a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year with family and friends. I look forward to sharing music, banter, opinions and comments with you all in 2025!
Such a nice performance of this Christmas song. I love watching all your embellishments. I may come back to this when I can and try to emulate some of them, even though that old F Chord is still a nemesis to me. Along with several of the other Barre Chords. Great job, friend and a very Merry Chistmas and Happy New Year to you too!
Haha, you don’t get to ‘round off’ anything, Gordon. It goes on and on till we’ve had enough
I’m looking forward to the summer bump already
Thanks for listening and commenting Pam. Yes, plenty sus chord embellishments in this one! As for your barre chords, we all know it’s practise, practise, practise.
Great job Gordon!
Now that’s a chordy workout right there.
Reminds me a bit of the sus workout on “I Promised Myself” (Nick Kamen)
I like this kind of version. When playing a song alone you have to envision how you can carry the song with what you have at your disposal and you did great.
As you get into the song, the flow even gets a bit smoother
If you’re not happy with it now, play it again this time next year and see how you have changed
Thanks so much for listening and commenting Lieven.
Yes and that can difficult with a well known song like this which has a choir singing the chorus/refrain all the way through. You simply have to go for it and try to make the song your own.
Gordon, you may not be entirely happy with your version, but that really gave me a lift, as your posts usually do. I haven’t heard that song for years, and I appreciate your post. And your signature smile at the end!!
Haven’t seen the SG in ages. Do you still have it? Are you playing it at all?
Hope you had a nice Christmas.
@oldhead49 Hi Dave. I hope you and your family enjoyed a lovely Christmas and I wish you health and happiness in 2025.
Thanks for listening and commenting on my Christmas efforts. That’s another song back in the drawer until Christmas ’25.
Yes I’ve still got the SG and you’re right, I haven’t been using it much lately. I’ll try to put that right in ‘25. I have to confess I’ve never really hit on a tone from my set up that I like.
Im trying real hard to put names & faces & guitar styles together so I feel more of a connection here with people that are being so kind & complimentary to me & my recordings.
Very nice & easy to listen to! Guitar sounds great, vocals aint too shabby either
Yes Allison, there is a wide variety of styles in the AVoYP area of this Community site and it’s a great idea to have a look round and put some names and faces to the avatars.
Great that you’ve joined us and I’ve enjoyed your collaborations.
Thanks for listening and commenting on my version of this classic Christmas song although Christmas already seems like a long time ago.
Good one Gordon. I agree the sentiments do remain.
While we lived in Amsterdam, around the same time. Every Xmas for a number of years, one would see hoardings with white background and black letters proclaiming ‘War Is Over’ and smaller underneath, ‘If you want It’. It still means something! Thanks for sharing.
