Happy Christmas (War is Over) - John Lennon & Yoko Ono

It’s the last Wednesday before Christmas so I had to record and post this one take today! A Christmas classic from John & Yoko. The sentiments remain the same 50 years after its release.
I’m not entirely happy with my version but it’s a Christmas song and I don’t want to spend any more time on it. It’s a bit of a sus chord marathon and I found it quite difficult to keep the chords going whilst singing. The original has a choir fading out at the end with the ”war is over” refrain, mine is a bit more abrupt.:grinning:

Gordon @sairfingers

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, whoops wrong song.

Sadly I remember when this was released very nice rendition, enjoyed it.

You put this one back on my list this week when I read you saying something about it and l;et me look at it (after my attempts last year), what a wonderful chord progression it is… :sunglasses:
And you performed it wonderfully, your voice suits it very well :sunglasses:  :sparkler:

Tsss "not entirely happy ", i and the most of us would :man_bowing:,
I was talking to someone this weekend who might want to sing it and I really hope that he will be produces a little like your warm sounds and timbre… I enjoyed it very much

Greetings

Great job Gordon.
I’d be “entirely happy” if I could match that performance

:clap::clap::clap::clap: and more clapping is the immediate reaction! This tune seems so challenging and you did more than a good job on it as it’s very enjoyable to listen to…

I do agree with you on this  and next year you’ll play it again with improved skills

I thought that was real good Gordon.
And that comes from somebody who don’t like christmas songs in particular. So that’s intended as a high compliment.

Since I’m a die hard Beatle (John Lennon) fan though. I can’t help myself. That Christmas song I do like.
Thank You for sharing!

Sounded good to me, Gordon. Your guitar always sounds so so good, and I can watch your relaxed strumming all day long, so fluid.

Have a merry merry Christmas, my friend

Great Song Choice Gordon
Another huge Beatles Fan here, I was watching Youtube clips of Paul McCartney last night on his 2024 tour. You carry the tune well.

I turn my back on the forum for a couple of days whilst in-laws from Oz and daughter from Berlin are visiting, and my good friends upload their Christmas videos.
This is in right in your wheelhouse, as Clint likes to say. Now it’s in your repertoire, you can dust it off and polish every December.
Bravo!
and Merry Christmas, Gordon

Nicely done, Gordon, as always, I enjoyed listening! Great song choice as well. Inspires me for the future. Those sus chords sounded very decent.
Wish you and your family all the best for Christmas!

@Elixir1253 thanks for the support CJ
@MAT1953 thanks Michael. Yes I too remember the original being released.
@Eddie_09 Glad you enjoyed my version Eddie.

Thanks Rogier. Yes it is a lovely chord progression. I have to confess I amended a couple of the sus chords as I just couldn’t stretch my little finger to form Justin’s Eadd9 or Em(maj)7 so I used different F# and D# notes in those chords.
@Richard_close2u presumably the amended chords retain the same name?

The world changes and everything stays the same.
Nicely done Gordon, great ending  you can have too many fading choirs !

@micknew thanks Mick I’m pleased you enjoyed the song. I guess “entirely happy” is a relative term. Can we ever be entirely happy with our playing? Short answer is no, but we have to accept where we are in this long road and keep striving to improve. :grinning:
@Coda thanks for the listen and support Tomasz
@Socio thanks James.

Haha I’ll play it a few more times this year and then dust it off next December so maybe not 365 days. :joy:
@Silvia80 thanks for the kind comments Sylvia. The actual tune isn’t so challenging. It’s more the repeated sus chords that are played in between each line of the lyric that require focus or you forget the lyric or which sus chord comes next.

Will and Jim, thanks so much for taking time to listen and comment and I’m pleased you enjoyed my version of this Christmas song. Where would we be without the Beatles either as a group or as individuals? I’d certainly have posted fewer songs on this forum.

Thanks Craig. After spending some time learning this song the sus chords are a bit ‘love/hate’.
