Happy holidays from DyeV

Very Devo!

That was great. I really enjoy your band’s energy! When are we going to see gig footage? (I’ve paid to see bands that weren’t as good)

Thank you David! Glad we could help get you into the festive spirit! :christmas_tree:

I agree. :+1: That was the one thing I was kind of bummed about with the sound, but overall, I loved it so I figured we’d share anyway  I have a deeper voice than Yohanna does and tend to use my lower register a lot, so the mic probably should have been turned up more when I was on it. Plus, I move a lot more  Yohanna’s voice is much higher pitched than mine so it definitely “cut through” better. We did a test before we recorded and Dan liked where my vocals sat, so we went with it  hindsight is always 20/20

Glad you enjoy our punk vibe and thanks for checking it out!

Thanks Deborah! I thought about posting it there, but I didn’t want to hijack your festive thread with two non-holiday songs  Maybe if you and the mods think it would be better to go there it can be moved?

Excellent!! :christmas_tree: Glad you enjoyed it!

  Since he’s in the back, it’s a bit hard to tell what he is wearing  I thought people would ask what he had around his neck. He is actually wearing a small glittery tree skirt around his neck with a Santa hat and some elf ears, which were hidden by the headphones unfortunately. His “goggles” were a kind of John Lennon style round red sunglasses  :sunglasses: I told him he kind of looked like a Christmas dinosaur. He loves wearing weird stuff, so he was having a lot of fun with it

Festive greetings to you as well! :christmas_tree:

Thanks Ian! Hopefully soon! :crossed_fingers: We are working on getting a full set together to be able to do that :slightly_smiling_face:. We are planning on applying to be in a local festival here over the Summer and we need an hour and a half set for that, so we are getting all our material together right now.

@Prof_Thunder @DarrellW

Thank you both so much! :slightly_smiling_face:

oh no no !
it was meant to be a community post where everyone gather to post christmas songs
like a family photo album full of souvenirs together  ( that we can bring back later to remember how we were )

Always good to see someone presenting an alternative festive frolic, the costumes fooled no one ! What a couple of crackers (festive pun tee hee) but I can see Doormat being hijacked by CP at some point as the stylistic undertone is already there and would only take a little tweaking.

Being a person of little age, the Bikini job was new on me and some good old fashion new punk, which means it probably came out about 3 decades ago. What can I say about the vocal, the offspring of Lemmy and Avril with a huge dose of attitude has arrived. Well done Yohanna great job.

Season greetings to you all. Looking forward from more of the Dye diversity in '25.

Thanks Toby! I don’t think I’ve ever learned an actual holiday song, so this is the closest you’ll get from us

Definitely! I could see it too! Just need to throw Jeff in there  He’s pretty much already the 6th member of DyeV

Agreed! I think she had a lot of fun singing this one. We all had a great time watching her punk alter ego take the mic on this one! Greg was super proud of her

Thanks Toby! There will be more coming from us :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks Boris! So happy to hear! I always wondered what my “style” would be when I started writing music and it’s cool for me to get to see what it’s turning out to be. Happy holidays!

Just to be clear, the comment was more about applying a little bit extra polish to make it shine a little brighter. Nothing ‘wrong’ with the production.

Not sure how you produce, if recorded directly via a mixer into the video with limited post-processing perhaps not a lot you can do but balance levels.

I think your performances are so good that if you don’t record the audio as individual tracks in a DAW to mix the audio after maybe it is worth that extra effort. I think just a little EQ work would be worthwhile. That high shelf on your vocal, maybe a little boost in an upper mid. Also high pass filters to cut the ultra low end from voice and guitars would help.

But I also appreciate the ease of a sound setup and then just record and release.

Once again, must say I really enjoyed it and honestly think what you have all accomplished in what is IMHO a short time is fabulous

Yep, when we play with DyeV, this is our current set up, so we are really just trying to balance the levels.

We would like to eventually get Greg and Yohanna’s audio into Reaper (which we use to record for CounterPlot) So that we can get really good takes of all the audio and be able to do a proper mix. We were a bit limited for time this go around- but we are working on it!

Thank you so much David! I’m happy you enjoyed it and I think the whole band is very happy with how far we’ve come in only a year. Pretty mind blowing! :exploding_head:

Bikini Kill 🫨 so cool you guys play some old school stuff. They were a strong proponent of getting more women into the industry safely. My wife is a huge Bikini kill and Tobi Vale fan. If it was not for Tobi we would not have Nirvanas “smells like teen spirit”. My wife even has an ratty OG bikini kill tee shirt in our bin of old concert memorabilia.
Loved it.

He is getting his Aquabats action going.

Edit its also fantastic you guys make your own songs.

@Ontime

Thanks Jason!

Greg (our lead guitarist) introduced me to Bikini Kill. I was actually really surprised that I wasn’t listening to them in the 90s as their music was (and still is) right up my alley!

Rebel Girl has turned into one of our favorite songs to play. It SO fun because it’s just two chords and a lot of attitude :sunglasses: :guitar:

Happy holidays to you!

Nice, festive offering!
Like your red jacket. Buy a set for the band… Kind of that Paul Reverie and the Raiders look.

All sounds pretty good. But I am thinking one could tinker with the drums a bit. They to me are a bit high, almost on the tinny side. One can add some duct tape on the underside of the heads and strap on a rag or something to kind of deaden them a bit and produce more of a thump. You could also add a pillow perhaps up against the kick to do the same sort of thing. An example of this is on a song we came up with way back as our 2nd offering. You can check out the start and then skip ahead to 1:01, where there is a drum run. That will allow you to hear what I mean.

Example Here

On the vox difference. @DavidP I think is saying to simply pull Jen up with EQ and drop the other singer down via EQ. At least experiment with that and see how it pans out.

Cheers for the New Years!

Late to the party, had some christmas stress and missed quite a few things here. Hey, they was great!!! Looking forward to even more!

Thanks so much Dom! Sorry your holiday was stressful, but glad you were able to check it out :slightly_smiling_face:

I love that style. Can’t really name a lot of bands, but maybe remembers me B52s or Devo that someone mentioned (but only heard them once or twice at my cousin’s). I wasn’t able yet to do that muted electric guitar sound that you did, I definitely have to practice that, but the whole band together sounded just perfect!
