That was my thoughts way back when and until I went window shopping at Thomann. Quite an array of materials in use and different resonator cones and structures as well. Justin Johnson has a good video on the different types an how the tone can be influenced, which I think is this one and a good guide for those who find this all mysterious !
This is actually the video that helped me decide on what I would build. I am building the round neck version though. There are metal nuts that fit over the existing one if you want to raise the strings for more aggressive slide playing.
Yes is really quite informative and I keep it with reach at all times. You’d think my wife would be saying “no more guitars” but when the subject comes up, she insist I buy one, “as they look nice”. And after my intro to slide towards the end of BLIM, I have my eye on a couple !!
That sounds great, Mark! Looking forward to following the process of the built!
Oh, and good luck and loads of fun with BLIM class 2!
Jen likes my 'Swamp Dog" resonator for the same reason.
Thanks, between BLIM, this build, and taking online bass lessons with Jen, it is going to be a busy guitar filled 6 months.
That looks like a very interesting project, look forward to seeing the progress and final result , cheers Eric
I guess that I am changing this to a progress report.
I prepared and bent the sides of my resonator guitar. Other than putting it in upside down, which placed the sides I wanted on the outside of the guitar on the inside, it was a success.
Very nice Mark. I love the wood bender. Did you build that like the rest of your shop? There is nothing better than a well functional DIY artisian built work bench. Its the sign of a true craftsmen.
Thanks Jason, I did build the bender. I actually put a link to the video I did on it in the video’s description.
How can you not have enough clamps, Christmas was only a few weeks ago !
Even if I had the clamps, I didn’t have the room. The others actually went better and I was able to do most of the clamping with the small ones.
That was a good one. Now that you have the shape together, I really like the size of that body.
Thanks Jason, the body is based on a Martin Orchestra Model (OM).
