I am about to start my 4th guitar build, a mahogany bodied spider resonator.
alright, now show us the draft/schema
Here is a picture of a friends resonator that I repaired. It will be very similar, but with a slotted headstock. I don’t have a design, but it is basically an OM body, which l have done before, but thinner. I don’t actually have a formal design, but a plan for the process.
Enjoyed the Intro video on YouTube Mark, you should share it here as well.
Thanks, here is a link.

Mark, you just made me want to make my own resonator I have a bee in my bonnet now man, mm I just wonder if I could make a metal one yip that’s my next goal
I have brass bodied Recording King resonator. I am not set up for metal work, but it would be fun to watch someone elses adventure.
Good luck with the project Mark, and with BLIM!
I’ve subscribed to your YT channel and am watching build 3 now
Thanks Ashu!
alright, let’s see where you land, any ideas on finish etc?
Do you mean finish date? No, BLIM 2 is my priority, hopefully before the heat of summer. If you mean the finish on the guitar, I use True Oil, as I don’t have a spray booth.
Yay! That’s exciting, Mark!
Can’t wait to follow the process with this one too. It’s amazing!
Congrats on winning the BLIM course too
Good luck and have fun with both
Thanks Jasmine, building a guitar is always a combination of excitement and fear. I think that BLIM may cause similar emotions.
Hi Mark. I always thought resonators were made from metal so this is a revelation to me!
Looking forward to watching this new build take shape.
Hi Gordon, resonators can be made out of brass, steel, aluminum, or wood. I guess there are even fiberglass and marble ones available. I have a brass resonator with a biscuit cone which are often used for blues. The spider cone resonator I am making now is often used in country music. There are also tri-cone resonators that are usually used with a slide, though they all can be of course.
That is an interesting project and look forward to seeing the end product. This will make a fine BLIM graduation gift to yourself.
Thanks, I am hoping that I can have it ready for the slide guitar section.
no I meant how will you treat and finish the wood?
Wow, from slab impressed.
I need a workshop!! After building my first partscaster not long back I have to r bug to do more but don’t have the bench.
Looking fwd to seeing the resuts
The first 2 guitars that I built were from kits. That mostly meant that the top and back were roughed in with the sound hole and rosette space routed in, and more importantly the neck built but not shaped. The 3rd one I built was closer to this one, but the fretboard was slotted. I also discovered that the back and sides are much thicker than the others, so there is going to be a lot of ‘sweat equity’ put into this one.
