I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar and I took the bold step 2 days ago to finally follow my dreams and make my own music.
There was a lotttt on youtube, almost enough to scare me off but I’m glad I found Justin and you guys. I’m going to commit no matter how hard it gets. Let’s see what happens when we don’t give up.
Quick question. Are the courses free till the end or do i have to start paying at a certain point. Just want to be prepared.
There is a LOT of free content. You will be a very good guitar player if you make it through all the free stuff. BUT there are are additional features available in the app that are not available for free. Plus at a certain point you might just want to pay something to keep it going anyway.
Hello George & Welcome!!!
As far as I know, all the basic lessons in Justin’s Grades along with the Modules within the Grades are completely free. The App, Music Theory courses, Strumming SOS & Tabs have an associated cost.
Once you get more advanced, Justin has a Blues Immersion course that seems to be a very intensive class for those who wish to pursue Blues. I am not ready for that one yet, but plan to attend it at a class in the future!
My advice to all beginners early in their guitar journey is to get a stand or wall hanger. When the guitar is visible & easy the just pick up & play, you can use the few minutes while you’re waiting for something to play. I enjoy playing while my coffee is brewing in the mornings!
Also, always have fun with your guitar! It’s called “playing” guitar for a reason!!! The more fun you’re having, the more likely you are to play. The more you play, the better you get. The better you get, the more fun it is!!!
Welcome to the community George. Lots of great info here, very supportive too. If you follow Justin’s lessons from his basics beginners course and forward and follow the program, you will great results. Its a ton of fun amd there is a lot to offer. Im glad you found the community George. Work hard and practice a every day, even if its just a little.
Welcome George! You’re going to like it here, I think.
Regarding free vs. paid content: you can see this by going to the Courses tab on the Justinguitar.com website. I think all the paid content is identified by the little dollar sign next to the name. I’ll also mention that the first two grades of Practical Music Theory are free.
Hi George,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun
Justinguitar is an ‘odd duck in this you-tube world’,
when I explain to other people what can be learned here is all free and how far it goes, and what has to be paid for the extra cherries on the cake, they often find it difficult to believe and I am asked more than once what I earn from recruiting them…
then I always say
“in life when something is too good to be true… well this is the exception”
Hi George, welcome to the JG Community. As already mentioned, you can learn here for free with free courses, learning plans and clubs. In my opinion the most valuable thing here is the nice and respectful community with other students and the teachers, most of the beginner questions have already been answered, but you can always post your questions and own recordings, get valuable tips and get in touch with nice guitar enthusiastic people all over the world. Have fun and let us hear from you!
Greetings from Germany. Cheers Withold
Nothing in life is free, George…
You’re probably already paying in sore fingertips, frustration at not being able to progress as fast as you’d wish, finding yourself time-poor with guitar-related activities to the exclusion of other fun stuff…
And further down the line, when your skills have improved, and you realise that JustinGuitar has helped you create a more meaningful existence, you’ll find yourself contributing financially, as a sign of gratitude, as well as wanting to keep the site going for others to enjoy the same experience.
Welcome!
Welcome to the community George - the best place to learn guitar. While most of the content is free, as @brianlarsen said, if we can we should all donate from time to time to keep this magnificent project going! https://www.justinguitar.com/donate
I would have a very hard time disagreeing with this. I’m frequently picking up my guitar, a mere 15 inches away from my chair at the merest hint of an excuse: when I’m on hold on the phone—when I kick off a 4 minute process on the computer—when I “just want to get away”—(have something I’d rather not do) — sometimes just walking by the room I get the urge as I glimpse it waiting lonely on the floor.
It’s a long, l-o-n-g, rewarding haul, with constant fun (how cool to make these wonderful sounds!) and almost guaranteed that the more you practice (correctly) the faster you improve–and Justin provides plenty of (experience specific) advice about what correct looks like-and the forum can help fill in some gaps and answer questions.
Welcome to scrum
Cheers,
Bruce, a 2/3 of a century kinda guy who picked it up not even a year ago…
