I used to play piano as a kid, and always wished I played a portable instrument, like guitar. Well, just do iiiiit! So here I am with my pre-loved Alhambra.
I took some lessons back in Switzerland, then dropped it while organizing and packing to move back to Finland. Now I am ready to go again, and find the former books just do not thrill me. I am quite excited about Justin’s approach where you have so many songs available even on very early stages.
And I am 63, btw. Yeah, took me long enough, I know. Anyway, excited to be here! Thanks from the bottom of my heart to Justin and team for putting out all those resources for free!
Hi Aino,
welcome to this great gruitar comunity, I wish you much fun with the guitar. Alhambra produces great classical guitars, would you like to post a photo of yours? I look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers Withold
Welcome Aino!! Justin’s guidance and structured Grades 1-3 really made the difference for me. I had tried to learn guitar 2 other times in my life but couldn’t stay motivated enough to push through my struggling points. Justin’s “NITSUJ” lessons and good advice really helped me stay motivated and focused on the right things.
I’ll be traveling to Lapland in January for a week (work trip). Any advice on how to dress to stay warm while I’m up there would be appreciated. My biggest concern is keeping my feet and hands warm!
Hi Aino, Greetings from Norwich in the UK. I’m likewise looking forward to getting started having been in something of a pentatonic rut for a while, so some new inspiration from this course would be welcome.
Welcome to the community. I didn’t start on the guitar till later in my life as well and am so glad I took it up. The reward is wonderful as long as you hang in there for the first few struggles. Look forward to hearing more from you.
Welcome, you have come to right place to learn, JG lessons are great. Follow them closely and set aside a regular time to practice each day and you will soon be playing songs and then moving on to solos etc if you wish. There are lost of lovely people on here if you need advice or get stuck.
Ooh, Lapland, now I am jealous! The trick (IMO) for staying warm is layering, with base layer being thermal underwear. We have all kinds of thermo socks here, for example, snugly snugly for the skin and so nicely warm. I sometimes wear 3 socks on top of each other, especially at home. For the hands I always have warm fingerless gloves within reach, and warm gloves for outside. Again, of course the nicest selections we find in Finland! Design x knowledge & experience! Wish I would need more of everything, since most things are so nice here! For outside, IMO, outter layer being a wind breaker (or just one of those super puffy down jackets or coats where the wind gives up halfway through), really makes a huge difference. Also, spikes for the shoes, if you have to walk on ice, are brilliant. (You find all that in Tokmanni, Rusta, Prisma, and other shops)
Will you bring the guitar? The other hotel guests might appreciate a lil concert!
I hope you will have a great trip! It will be dark, maybe you will see the northern lights. Fingers crossed!
That is good to know! TBH, fending off that terrible endboss “dementia” is not the least of the reasons why I decided to pick up guitar playing (not saying you are near that endboss, just a general thought). Did you buy the app, too, or went with the free resources? I am still on the fence, but had so many expenses with the car recently it will have to wait a bit anyway.
when I first started, close to 14 years ago now, justin didn’t have an app. I bought the first edition of his beginners song book. For me, it was focusing on songs that did it for me. A simple version of Blowin in the wind using A E and D and justins anchor finger approach to those three along with his one minute chord change lesson.
Once I could play that song all the way through it really motivated me. The other factor was forcing myself to play every day for 15 minutes. Good luck.
Other than spikes for my boots, it seems that I have everything I need. I won’t be bringing the guitar, as I doubt I’ll have any time to play, and I’ll already have 2 big suitcases to fit all of my winter clothing and boots!
I do hope to see the Northern lights when I’m there. Fingers crossed (inside of my mittens LOL!)
