Hello from Alberto, Milan, Italy

I started playing guitar 3 months ago. Never played any musical instrument before, never had any interest in music, I do not sing and cannot dance.
It gets worse: I am 74 years old (yes, I used to play with the dinosaurs when I was young).

So, what happened?
I cannot offer a clear explanation. Simply, I realized that I had stopped doing a few things like skiing and windsurfing and I wanted to start something new, different, challenging.
Sometimes in life you need to get out of your comfort zone and try something new.

What I was not prepared for is that I really like it: yes, it is difficult, sometimes painful, progress is erratic, but the satisfaction is immense.
I savour every step: the first few notes / strums (amazing: I can actually produce sounds!), reading the tabs and being able to turn them into music, the first time I finally succeded in changing chords…
It is like discovering a new world. Thankfully my wife has been supportive all the way.
After a couple of courses here in Italy I found Justin Guitar and really liked it: I like the structure of the courses, the teaching style and the overall spirit.
I bought the app (very useful) and love the Playing it forward concept: I plan to add it to my list of Christmas gifts

Thanks to Justin and all the team

Hi Alberto,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun :sunglasses:

Greetings,Rogier

Welcome Alberto. Great introduction. As we age we do lose or give up some youthful pastimes (like playing with dinosaurs). I played weekend league football :soccer: all my life, retiring at 54 because I couldn’t keep pace with the younger players. Also I’m an AC Milan supporter! There’s nothing like starting a new love affair late in life -
with a guitar. And you will meet some good people in this community too.

Welcome to the community Alberto. I think that you will find it a welcoming, helpful, and fun place to hang out.

Benvenuto Alberto and congratulations on taking up an enjoyable hobby in your ‘maturity’
I wish you many happy years with your instrument

I’m in denial…
Went back to vollyball age 60 after a couple of decades

Hello Alberto i do know you are going to enjoy your journey cheers Hec

Welcome dude…I bought a guitar during Covid, when I was in my early 60’s. It’s been a fun journey, frustrating at times, rewarding at times. There is so much to learn, so the journey will never end. Enjoy it!

Welcome, Alberto, always good to learn something new and even better when you enjoy it! Keep having fun.

Welcome! I think you’ll find that there are a lot of older players here. I think it’s a great new hobby at any age. There are studies that indicate that playing a musical instrument is like a total body workout for the brain.
