Hello from Andrew. Back to the Guitar after 30 Years!

Hi, after 30 years I felt I needed to rediscover my love for the guitar. I became quite proficient in the early 90s, (and very proficient at Guitar Hero in the mid 00’s!) despite not really having any musical talent. It’s a massive learning curve again and re-learning the skills at an older age is proving challenging!

I have watched lots of Justin’s song videos, along with many others, but I definitely get more from his and the amount of content available on JustinGuitar is amazing. Nothing like this was available when I first learnt!

Sometimes it’s all a bit overwhelming but I am enjoying playing again and I am finding that a mixture of structured lessons and learning favourite songs provides a good balance. I am currently using Youcisian (on the basis it’s a bit GuitarHero like!) but I think I will probably chuck my plectrums into the JustinGuitar basket moving forward.

If only I had continued playing for the last 30 years…

Hello Andrew & Welcome!

I’m sure you’re going to be very happy with Justin Guitar… so much information & things to learn!!! Even for those who play before coming here, it’s recommended to start at the very beginning & at least skim through all the lessons. There’s a lot of “nuggets” in there & also you may find some bad habits that you might want to get rid of/relearn!
Good luck with your return to guitar!!!

Tod!

Hello Andrew.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space.
https://community.justinguitar.com/categories

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.

Also, please make sure to read the community etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.

You’re in good company here, quite some share a similar back story with an on-off relationship with the guitar.

I wish you loads of fun re-exploring guitar-land.

Hi Andrew
nice to meet you

I personally think you can’t go wrong chucking all your plectrums into the JustinGuitar basket  and I agree with Tod @CATMAN62 I found starting right from the beginning with the first lessons to be so beneficial

IKR! This still blows me away!

Most importantly, have fun :guitar: :sunglasses:

Yep. I’ve looked at other online guitar instructors, and often found myself saying “wait, wait, what did you just do? How did you do that?” That has never happened with Justin. He always makes everything clear.

Welcome to the community.

Hi Andrew, welcome to the community forum. You can’t do anything about the 30 years that you didn’t play guitar, but you can learn a lot in the next 30 years.
